Was or will this game be replayed/televised? I figure since there's no basketball at all that NBA TV should at least pick this up. I'm desperate to watch some basketball - WNBA excluded!!
http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=2923050&name=stein_marc Yi struggles in first outing DALLAS -- This won't come as any great consolation to folks in Milwaukee wondering how long it'll be before Yi Jianlian visits their town ... but I got my own first look Sunday. Yi was in Dallas and in uniform, coming off the bench for the Chinese senior national team against the under-19 edition of Team USA at SMU. How'd he do? You're undoubtedly well aware by now that Yi's representatives want their guy in a major market and are calling for the Bucks to trade him immediately, but here's something I suspect that the warring sides can agree on: They'd probably prefer if I didn't say too much about this one. That's because it wasn't exactly Yi's finest two hours. He had one point and four fouls entering the fourth quarter of China's 91-75 defeat. He missed badly on two early attempts to finish inside with his left hand, even though he wasn't facing especially polished defenders. There's no denying it: For long stretches in his first game since the Bucks made him the No. 6 overall selection in Thursday's draft, Yi either looked uptight or tired. Yet it's probably worth pointing out that Yi, even in that condition, still managed to drop 14 points in a surprisingly spirited final period, even though there were at least two occasions that he lagged behind the action while gasping for breath. He's not in game shape, true. But a quick flurry of seven points with Bucks scout Scott Howard watching courtside -- one silky J and a long 3-pointer to live up to his vaunted shooting touch, followed by a quick and nimble spin through the lane to sink a running one-hander -- flashed just enough skill to hint at why Howard's bosses felt they couldn't pass on this guy, no matter how much trouble they face getting him to Wisconsin. Whether you believe he's 19 or 22, Yi is an unquestionably mobile 7-footer. He has quick feet, he's got a perimeter game and, by all accounts, he wants to be coached. Sounds like upside to me. The proverbial stuff you can't teach. It's also easier to rationalize some of his Sunday struggles when you remember that he's practiced only once with his countrymen since flying in from New York ... and when the international rules in place made the game so much grabbier than an NBA game would be ... and when you're reminded that guard play (Lakers draftee Sun Yue included) remains a big-time weakness for China, which is always going to affect Yi's effectiveness when Yao Ming isn't there to open up the floor (Yao wasn't in attendance due to a shoulder injury). The Chinese are training in Big D through the July 4 holiday before flying to Vegas to participate in the NBA's ever-growing summer league. So perhaps we'll learn more about Yi's Milwaukee future on Monday, when he's scheduled to participate in a press conference at the newly opened House of Blues with Dallas mayor Tom Leppert in advance of China's encounter Tuesday with the Mavericks' summer-league team. I know that's not the customary post-draft press conference Bucks fans were counting on. I know this definitely wasn't the sort of post-draft display that Bucks officials or Yi's handlers were hoping for. I know, most of all, that everyone is waiting to hear answers about how the Bucks and Team Yi are going to resolve this standoff. In the interim, though, at least we did learn a little more about Yi's game. Even on an off night.
Chen Jianghua is the next player on that team to watch, too bad he only played three minutes. Kid has ridiculous handles and passing ability.
i wonder if it would be insulting to see china play against USA ALL-High School team, make it happen! i think USA all high school team would give them a fair run
A small cocktail welcome party thrown by the Mayor of Dallas, Tom Leppert to the Chinese national team. Donnie Nelson and Del Harris were also there.
thats why damn jonas needs to get over himself and put chen jianghua in the game for 25+ minutes, maybe then these other sorrry excuse guards who cant handle the ball wont get teh team 24 turnovers a game
Rafer should goto the CBA after he's done with the ROX. Dude would be the MVP of that league, he'd cross over so many guys....
http://cbachina.sports.sohu.com/20070704/n250898218.shtml This is the match report in Chinese from the CBA website on sohu.com. Wang Zhizhi 28 points, Zhu Fangyu 17 points, Yi Jianlian 11 points (he was 10 points/10 rebounds by half time), Liu Wei 9 points, Wang Lei 8 points...... China was behind in 1Q 25 vs 18, and 1H..50 vs 47. and in 3Q, China staged a comeback and took over the lead at 77 vs 74. In 4Q, with some 4 minutes left, China stretched the lead to 94 vs 86.....but they just could not close out the game, and let the Mavericks took over and won 105 vs 100 at the end. Note: This is the very first game that China national team played in strict compliance with NBA rules. To get them acquainted with the NBA rules, a special clinic was held in the morning for them.
Photos of the national team players at the clinic arranged by Dallas Mavericks to brief them about NBA rules, and the team practice afterwards.
I have a question pryuen... Do they call the defensive 3 seconds in FIBA rules? Also how many minutes did Yi get in the 2nd half and wtf happened to Sun Yue? And how many rebounds and turnovers did Yi get total?
