That's why i mentioned them in my post. Hopefully when the right time comes, one of those teams will need 5-6 point guards and maybe an expiring contract to make the sign and trade work. I'm not a salary cap guru so maybe someone can match up the salaries right now so we can get it done while we still have Sura.
Are you freakin serious? Kobe or KG for Bob Sura and Rafer "skip to my brick"? LOL thanks for making my day!!!
Some people are horrible at recognizing when and how to use sarcasm... others... theyre just horrible at recognizing sarcasm, period.
The rockets really shouldnt be focusing on rip. Thats almost pointless when u got mac and battier locked up in their spots for now. Focus on a PF and thats it. None of this useless jumbo mumbo.
according to your theory... we should trade away everyone except yao, battier, and mac and for all the players we trade away we can get kobe and play with a 4 player roster. hey who needs a pg right? when u have 4 players on a team, point guards are useless... /end sarcasm if we dont want 5-6 effing pointguards why in the world would u think the wolves or lakers needs 5-6 MORE pointguards ontop of what they already had? 9 pg team to win the title right? /end more sarcasm
battier and his defense is SOOOO much more valuable to this team than another scorer in rip. you have got to be kidding me.
Rip is probably the best shooter in the league and he isn't a bad defender himself. He's a far better player than Battier.
Then you don't understand the Princeton offense. Rip instantly makes you a legitimate fast-breaking team. Can you imagine Shane Battier, Luther Head or Rafer getting away on a break? How many fast breaks have you seen Rip finish? The guy is the best since Reggie Miller to find a shot away from the ball and gives defenses a hell of a time trying to stay with him through all the motions. Rip and McGrady next to each other is an unguardable perimeter. I think maybe Battier, Bonzi, Brooks and Bobby Sura for Rip and Dice is more of an even deal. PG: Chauncey Billups | Flip Murray | Aaron Brooks SG: Bonzi Wells | Rodney Stuckey | Aarron Afflalo SF: Tayshaun Prince | Shane Battier | Ronald Dupree PF: Rasheed Wallace | Amir Johnson | Jason Maxiell CN: Chris Webber | Nazr Mohammed Gives them a big post-up guard in Bonzi and Battier to go along with all their skinny jump shooters. Give them a dart-quick budding PG to change the tempo of their offense. Gives them almost $7 mill of cap relief - the ability to re-sign Billups and Amir Johnson. PG: Mike James | Rafer Alston | Vassilis Spanoulis SG: Rip Hamilton | Kirk Snyder | Luther Head SF: Tracy McGrady | Steve Novak | Justin Reed PF: Antonio McDyess | Chuck Hayes | Carl Landry CN: Yao Ming | MLE (Reach for Darko) still leaves us V-Span, Luther Head, JLIII, Steve Novak to trade for a scorer off the bench.
I think the symptoms have progressed far beyond "dreams". It's gotten to the initial stages of delussional.
I guess they could always keep Rip and just lose Billups in a bidding war. That would REALLY work out for the Pistons.
Please don't take this personally. You are having big logic problems in at least two fundamental areas. First is salary cap and secondly is equivalent talent evaluations. From a cap aspect, there is nearly a zero chance the Pistons will lose Billups. There are two teams with cap room and neither has expressed even a remote desire for him. This is Chauncey's last big contract and as long as the Pistons don't offend him...he's theirs. And even if they do offend him...what's he going to do...walk for well under the Pistons' offer? No. Secondly, I've been around here a number of summers and if I had a dollar for every post that proposed a trade where the Rockets robbed another team I could retire tomorrow. When you are proposing a trade...be reasonable...no team is going to give the Rockets a starter for bench players. That only happens on the rare occassion where a player has made himself a big risk to his current contract holder...Artest or Rasheed for example. And even then, the Rockets don't operate in a vacuum. There are 28 other teams who may have an interest and better assets. These are things many here are trying to tell you but you're not "getting it".
Uhhh Yaaa, Ummmm Okkkk. Hmmmmm. You defeninantly hit the nail on the head! I guess we're not gonna get Kobe and KG after all! I really thought we had the best shot out of all the teams out there with all our coveted pieces. Please don't inform me Milwaukee didn't agree to trade us Li for our 2008 2nd round pick. That one's still in the work, right? Li does want out of there.
I'm not liking the idea of bringing Rip Hamilton here. He gets most of his points off curls and moving through screens. Isn't that Tracy McGrady's job? I'd rather have Shane Battier who specializes on defense and can hit the 3-pointer, a perfect complement to McGrady's game.
I do appreciate your efforts in educating me regarding salary caps and talent evaluations... but I think my understanding is just fine. Maybe I should break down the cap benefits for you: I am not arguing the fact that Billups will more likely than not end up in Detroit (by the way, Atlanta, Charlotte, Memphis and Milwaukee have the cap space to sign Billups, so that makes more than two teams). However, if Detroit offers anything less than a max contract starting at $13 Mill a year, it will be a slap in the face. If in fact Joe Dumars offers Chauncey Billups $13 Mill to a team salary (consisting of 9 current players) of $50.85 Million, they would be at the least, $3 Million over the luxury cap. In effect, the Pistons would be paying $16 Mill for Billup's service, alone. For the sake of argument, let's also say that Detroit will need more than 9 players... I think the league minimum is 12 players. For every dollar they add in salary, they pay a dollar in luxury tax. There's also the salary of the rookies who were both taken in the first round. Those rookies have guaranteed contracts that will further push the team salary deeper into luxury tax commitments. So then if you're Joe Dumars, you think, "OK, were paying over $20 Million more in salary this season, but I can't really say that were much better than a year ago." In terms of talent. I admit, that Detroit gets the rawer end of the deal... in terms of talent... current talent. But in terms of salary cap relief, it makes alot of sense. Bob Sura's contract eliminates $3.84 Mill ($7.68 Mill if you consider the luxury tax savings). If they were to send Dice, we would absorb an additional $2+ Mill and Detroit will be safely under the luxury threshold, enough so that they can offer money to keep Amir Johnson around (by all accounts they like his potential). Bonzi Wells is serviceable this season, enough to let your younger guards grow into their roles, and is cheap talent at just $2.28 Mill on the year. He also expires at the end of the year to let other pay scales grow under the luxury threshold. You don't necessary get better by replacing Rip Hamilton with Shane Battier, Bonzi, and Brooks... or by replacing Antonio McDyess (33/yo) with the much younger and much more athletic Amir Johnson. But I wouldn't necessarily say you're worse off... especially when you're saving tens of millions of dollars. Now, I know you said you didn't want to offend me with your last post, but you clearly had every intention to be as snobby as possible. It's ok. It's just the internet, buddy.
