sounds like pure specualtion by the writer. just look around the league for who needs a PG, or where he'd like to play.

Steve Francis is headed for a Baron Davis-type comeback year wherever he lands. I want Steve back just as much as the next fan but with the drafting of Brooks, the signing of James and all our other guards, I don't think the chances are high that he comes home. I understand that if we do make a trade getting rid of some of our guards, then its a possibility. I guess only time will tell. Let's all hope the Franchise is back home and reunited with the Dynasty.

I remember Stevie dribbling the cover off the ball like the rest of you. But what I also remember is that other than Cat, we didn't have all that many other options. Jim Jackson, Mo Taylor, Cato, well they really played great after they left here right?

Steve is a knucklehead sometimes, but he has heart. We need that on this team. We need the fire that Jon Barry, Wesley and James all seemed to show. If James and Stevie can bring that, then I would love to have him back. On bad knees he is still so much better than "O"fer.

I hope we swing for the fence for Rashard and get lucky and get a hometown discount/post buyout deal for Franchise. That would give me some hope for next year. Right now we are FAR away from a good playoff run.

    Reunited 'cause we understood
    There's one perfect fit
And, sugar, this one is it
    We both are so excited
    'Cause we're reunited, hey, hey

When ya think about it...as far as team needs go, the Clippers are really hurting at the guard position. Livingston, the pg who was supposed to take over from Cassell had a really ugly injury where it looked like his leg separated from his knee at a right angle. That could be career ending.

Cassell, now if you talk about an aging guard who's best days are behind him. It's Sam. He can still put up decent numbers but I guarantee he's going to get injured in the course of a season. Francis and Mobley teamed up would fit in really nicely and give the Clippers a big boost in the backcourt.

With the Rockets glut of guards, unless the Rockets unload a bunch of them, it's not likely that Francis ends up in Houston. But that being said, the two most likeliest places for Franchise to end up is Houston or San Diego. I'm guessing that Francis wouldn't mind going either place but would prefer Houston. In the Clippers Franchise would be a starting guard. In Houston, he'd probably be splitting minutes either coming off the bench or with the bench player coming in to sub for him.

i would take Francis over JL3, Vspan, sura.....head can shoot so maybe not him..but if we get rid of 3 other guards, we could use him....

Ya know..I'm looking at the roster right now and I'm thinking the Rockets have got to unload some smalls to get a big. That scenario could play out for Franchise. If I were Stevie, I'd sit back and wait for the offers to come in after he gets bought out by the Trailblazers. Then I'd let the teams compete for signing. Rest assured that the Clippers are going to be offering a fair amount of green for him. Just hope he doesn't end up there and lands in Houston instead.

The only real advantage to signing Francis would be that he is a decent rebounding PG. If we end up a little short at the PF position(like its looking now), that may be an advantage. I wouldn't give him the keys to the franchise or anything, but a hopefully older, wiser, and hungry(for playing time, not fried foods) Steve Franchise could be a good gamble if the financial terms are right. I wouldn't let the past several year's stats of Stevie sway you - he played for two of the absolute worst run most dysfunctional organizations. Most players have been at their worst who have played under the Weisenbroad run Magic and the Thomas run Knicks.

Unfortunately in this year's market someone will overpay him to run the point(Clippers, Cavs, Heat, etc.) unless Fracis is really motivated to come back to Houston.

Because he is better than any guards Rox have now.

I think it would be great if we could get Francis, while at the same time trading away our glut at the guard position. Defensively, Rafer is a liability since there is no way he can match the quickness that a majority of the PGs in the west bring. I would not mind having a backcourt of James and Francis, while bringing in Brooks and Spanoulis off the bench. We could then hopefully find suitors for guys like Alston, Head, JLIII, and Sura, which we could parlay into some size and depth. However, realistically, I think that Morey made his bed when he drafted Brooks so early....he knew he would be creating a surplus at the guard position, but he probably had already decided that he was not going to sign a PG out of free agency. I don't put the chances of Francis coming here very high, but if Morey could somehow swing some deals to make it happen, I would be ecstatic. Does anyone remember if the Knicks traded away Francis before or after the Rockets picked Brooks? I want to say before we picked, in which case I have to question Morey's decision to draft Brooks even more. As soon as I saw that Francis was involved in the deal, I knew he would get bought out. Portland is trying to get younger and trim their payroll, and Francis does not fit either of those criteria. If it was that obvious to someone like me, then Morey DEFINITELY knew, and chose not to use it to his advantage.

    The Clippers.............

    PG Francis/Cassell/Hart
    SG Mobley/Livingston/Diaz
    SF Maggette/Ross/Korolev
    PF Brand/Thomas/Thornton
    C Kaman/Davis/A. Williams

If they get Francis, again the West just keeps getting better and better. That team actually might have a chance in the East. Damn the west/east disparity is getting ridiculous.

How can any team afford to "buy out" his contract? I don't understand how a team could just throw 30 something million on the table. And why would they do that?
