O.k. he is dead....at least he isn't in suspended animation like he was before at some point (whatever that was...) It seems silly, but given that I collected bio cards and comics as a kid what's the point? How would you rate him as a favorite character or not? Many felt like he was Marvel's Batman because he had no powers, just enhanced strength and agility. http://news.aol.com/entertainment/s...s/20070701102709990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001

Marvels Batman is Iron Man! Iron Man is wealthy and has no powers thus uses several gadgets to make up for it. They both get women easy. Come on! Could someone do a little summary of what has been going down in Marvel lately? I hear about superheros giving up their identities voluntarily, Spidey wearing robot suits, people are dying, whats the deal? I think its cool that the info I hear isnt X-Men related (my fav), seems like the rest of Marvel is finally having some epic storylines.
True...I can't believe all the stupid cards and comics I paid for as a kid...remember the bio cards in the early 90's that ranked each hero's strength, speed, agilty, etc...?
Oh God. Never purchase a comic book expecting it to be worth something. It won't be in our lifetime. When I was a kid, I had "sealed" comics of "Batman & the Outsiders" and "Ghost Rider". They were originally purchased in 84 and 85 for 75 cents, roughly. These days they are worth 1-2 bucks. Nobody's getting rich on comics anytime soon, unless you find your granddads. They are the male version of beanie-babies.
I won a copy of Spawn #1 at a raffle. I remember dreaming about it becoming super duper valuable. Then the Spawn Movie came out, and it killed that dream promptly.
This is relevant to my interests in more ways than one... Could someone do a little summary of what has been going down in Marvel lately? In Civil War a few young reckless superhero kids fought some villains and as a result a town in connecticut blew up killing hundreds of children in a school. As a result, the US government passed a law requiring superheroes to give their identity to the government and go through mandatory training. All superheroes failing to comply would be arrested and treated as criminals. Iron Man was the main guy supporting the act, while Cap put together a team of "Secret Avengers" to oppose the act and keep doing what they always did. In the end Iron Man won and Cap gave up when he realized that Americans supported the act and that he was out of touch with modern America (as he always had been). This year's big event is World War Hulk. Before Civil War, Iron Man and a few others decided that Hulk was too much of a threat to leave on earth, so decided that the best way to deal with him was to send him into space. They did this, but the ship went off course and landed on a gladiator planet where hulk had to fight for his life. eventually, hulk beat his enemies, found a wife who became pregnant, but the ship that he came down in blew up killing his wife and child and many of his friends, leaving him to survive. This summer, Hulk is travelling back to earth for revenge. I hear about superheros giving up their identities voluntarily, Spidey wearing robot suits, people are dying, whats the deal? Before civil war, Iron man gave spidey a high tech suit that improved his abilities. When spidey defected fromthe proregistration camp, he gave back the suit, so it lasted a little longer than 6 months. Spidey gave up his identity as a statement to show that he supported the registration act, but now that he is against it, that turned out to be a big mistake, the ramifications of which will show up later this fall. I think its cool that the info I hear isnt X-Men related (my fav), seems like the rest of Marvel is finally having some epic storylines. a big X-men arc is coming later this year. After a horrid storyline, House of M, 99% of the worlds mutants lost their powers leaving around 200 left (all of whom happen to be the most marketable characters). Later this year, they will deal with the story of them being an endangered species, and eventually having to work with other mutants that they fought in the past to figure out what is the best way for them to continue survival without being wiped out. From what I know on the inside, there are no plans to revive captain america in the next 2 1/2 years as the major storylines have been set already. However, on the movie side, Cap is likely to be hitting the theatres in 2009 and a script is being written by david self who did Road to Perdition. So who knows, its going to be hard for the comics division to not have Captain America on the rack when he's in the movies. For the non-comic fans out there that might be interested in the movie, one of the problems is the fact that the costume looks silly in person. Do you think the mass audience would be turned off by it to the point that it needs change? That costume is marvel's equivalent of the iconic superman costume, so its hard to change it, yet in real life it doesn't pass the laugh test.
This should do: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_War_(comics) You can also check out all the other recent Marvel events -- Avengers Disassembled, House of M, Decimation, and so on. I'm not a big comic book fan, but the storylines as a whole interest me.
Never really a fan of Captain America except for when they had the game on nintendo from back in the day.. it was him and that arrow man guy in green. Superman's death was more tragic.
Wikipedia? I thought it was a waste of time with drivel backstory and lame parallel to the war on terror. If you really want to know the end Spoiler Cap America, who planned an ambush, surrendered himself right on the heels of victory. Check out Annihilation or Planet Hulk instead.
Well, I bought it during the "Funeral for a Friend" crossover. I've got about 4 boxes of comics waiting to pass on to my sons in about 60 years.
I wanted that so bad when it came out. I almost dropped 30 bucks on it. Then 9 years later in college I looked up death of superman on eBay and a lady was selling the black bag edition sealed for 3 dollars. Got it for 5 shipped. You know when you saw this back in 1992 you popped a woody.
oh wait, nothing was worse that that whole damn "breaking of the bat" garbage when Bain broke Bruce Wayne's back. I bought all the crap just to have him his butt come back.
Damn that's a lot of comics! I used to have lots of Archie comics as a kid and tons of Japanese comics like Doraemon, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon (umm.. for my little sister), and many more.
