thats actually a really good observation...that only splitter, who may not even come over, was the only PF taken between our picks at 26-31. so brooks was really a luxory pick. hopefully he'll turn out great.
I do think that Landry was the sleeper at that slot. I wish he were a little taller, but then he probably wouldn't be there at 31. I am a little more concerned with the past ACL injury. That can't help him as the 82 game years go by.
oh crap I just tried to be smart without READING the other post first... my apologies (when you said 'standing reach' I thought you had written wingspan - try reading it as if it says 'wingspan' makes my post very funny...)
Landry's 6'7 but the forehead makes him look 6'8 or 6'9. It doesn't matter how tall he is...just produce...especially on the boards and defensively.
Let's see him on the court before we pass judgement. Do you think anyone gave Chuck Hayes a chance? And look at him now.
A lot of really good NBA players (not saying that Landry is going to be one) who were drafted late were overlooked because of their lack of 1 or 2 inches. Then 5 years later people start saying things like "why would 24 teams pass on X player", or "sure, he was an inch shorter than we would like but we should have seen his talent and taken him anyway".
LOL. it's ok. http://www.draftexpress.com/measurements.php?year=2005&sort2=DESC&draft=100&sort=5 Chuck Hayes standing reach 8' 8.5" for a midget, he's got a pretty long reach. He can reach 2 inches higher than Landry. Landry standing reach 8' 6.5", He's got unusually short arms for a 6'9" player, He is very wide though, apparently.
Sir Charles was only about 6'5" so height is not the issue here. I am not compairing him to Charles just using his height as an example, Charles was a freak for his height.
I posted this on another thread but it's a good comparison of the numbers put up by the fields PF. http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=2128 "Player Efficiency Rating, also created by John Hollinger, was designed to measure the overall statistical effectiveness of each player. PER may not be the best stat to use to compare college players, however, as it does not distinguish between level of competition, as Noah Libby-Haines explains. Nick Fazekas dominated this category by a huge margin thanks to his terrific all-around numbers and efficiency, and was followed by Carl Landry and Al Horford. The bottom of the list has many players who weren’t called upon or were unable to be main scoring options this season, including Josh McRoberts."
I read somewhere, I think ESPN or SI that Newly did a good job on Oden. I think thats an achievement at least........given that like Oden is what 7 foot....His rated as a sleeper as well. But then Sports guy from ESPN rates Brooks as a sleeper as well
you know the difference between landry and someone like big baby? fame. people don't know landry so they get their panties in a wad. i don't know either of them but i do know the rocket's scouts watched hours of footage on both, and each and every one of the other 4's available. does that mean they're 100% right? absolutely not. but looking over profiles on these guys it's certainly plausible that landry is the best of the lot mentioned in this thread. too many people are too thick to grasp that possibility. they could have had big baby!!!! ooooh. yeah he's the f#$king answer. this team needs to hit it big in free agency or in a trade. the draft is an avenue to add talent but i for one wasn't counting on whoever we picked to be THE key to 07-08. i'm fine with brooks and landry and look forward to seeing if they're any good.
Completely agree! Davis is the next Tractor Traylor.... Landry will be a great addition, and he will be the starter come opening night
This is not meant for m_cable, I am just building on what you are saying. Realistically he should be 6'9" in shoes or even taller. He measured out at 6'7.75" w/o shoes and no one can argue with that being a fact. The fact that his soles of his shoes were only .75" is ridiculous. The average sole shoe thickness is about 1.25" which would make him a legit 6'9" player if he wore normal shoes. Spencer Hawes had 2.25" inch thick shoes which is crazy. If Landry wore those shoes at the combine he would be measuring right at 6'10". Another poster pointed this out but I am sick of people saying he is 6'7" when he is an inch taller than that W/O Shoes. I hate when the media(chronicle) has all the facts in the world at their disposal and they can't get a player's height right and make the pick look even worse to "casual" fans. I think its pretty impressive that he didn't try to bend the truth like Hawes. There is no way that guy is going to wear 2'25" inch high heels while running up the court. 6'8" w/o shoes is actually pretty average for a PF these days. The thing about Landry is that he was playing awesome his junior year before he got hurt(tore ACL) and last about a year and a half because of it. If he didn't get hurt and was two inches taller he probably would have been a top 20 pick or even a lottery pick like m_cable said. It seems like he is recovering his strength back from that injury and should continue to get more explosiveness when his knee fully recovers. As someone mentioned, it takes about two or even three years before a player gets his strength back from an injury like that. The fact that he produced so well his senior year while recovering from an injury is pretty amazing. Let's give the guy a chance.

Better than Chuck anyways who usually lays it up! Landry finishes strooongggg
Hell, those finishes make him just about the best PF on our roster already. What the hell kind of shoes was Herbert wearing?
