Pipedream I know, but according to the Portland rumor a few weeks ago we were interested in Travis Outlaw. That would require a sign and trade but I'd throw in filler on our side to make something like that work. Suddenly we become younger, longer and quicker.
Maybe we had Portland deal for us so we could get Fernandez? And Portland could get Brooks (local player makes good)? Battier + Head for Webster + Frye as the rest of the deal? Kerr would probably rather help Portland at this point than Houston. But is it too sneaky to have Portland back-door Phoenix so we can deal for Fernandez? Of course, Battier/Head for just Frye/Webster might make more sense. Maybe.
If you listen to the clip, they said a sign and trade is not involved. They are just waiting for the Knicks deal to be finalized before the next deal can take place.
Maybe.......What do you guys think?? Houston trades: Rafer, Shane Battier, Luther Head, Bob Sura, Vspan Houston gets: Miles, Pryzbilla, Webster, Frye, and Fernandez We get 2 bad contracts, but we shore up our PF position, and our backup center position. We also get Webster who has potential. Miles does have a huge contract and is immature, but maybe a change of scenery to Houston can help him. We all know what he is capable of doing when he has his head on straight. Pryzbilla's contract is also big, but he is insurance behind yao and is much younger than Mutombo. He averaged in 1.57 blocks in 16.2 minutes last season. We get fernandez, who as we know, was supposed to be Morey's selection. We also dump 4 guards. Portland gets a starting SF, a backup for Jack in Alston, a great shooter in Head, a future prospect in Vspan, and cap relief with Sura. They also dump Miles and Pryzbilla who don't seem to be in their future plans.
Yeah, I'm a fan of Outlaw as well. I really hope we're a part of this though. I think Fernandez has a chance to be really good.
Good call on Travis Outlaw. He is a RFA. We inquired about him perhaps packaged with Jack but balked when Portland wanted Battier. So, picking up on that.....how about Frye+Fernandez+ S&T Outlaw (to help with matching the salary) for Battier. Would you do that?
I have my money on this NOT involving the Rockets. You people get all worked up about little wisps of rumor, somehow attribute it to your team, forget to actually analyze the made up deal your making up anyways, and then, to top it all off, generally get pissed, proclaim your hatred for the GM and promise to not follow the team anymore when the made up trade doesn't happen.... ...ok, maybe the above is an exxageration, but not by much. Other than the fact that we probably were trying to trade up to get Fernandez (as if other teams aren't also possibly interested in him), and might have had some discussions in teh past with Portland (really, in the past 14+ months, who hasn't?), what linkage to the Rockets specifically is there?
This would definitely be ideal. If the Rockets give up Battier, they have to get another quality SF in return. Unfortunately, as Sooner stated, the Blazers said no sign and trade involved. Maybe Webster or Jack in Outlaw's place? Stock up on PGs and trade for a forward, small or power. I think PGs have more value to most teams than forward positions
-Fernandez was the Rockets' target, according to Feigen. -the Blazers want Battier, a small forward, accoring to reports out of Portland. -the Rockets need a decent PF, the Blazers said they have to wait on formalities in the completion of the Randolph-Knicks trade before they can complete the next deal, which is apparently done. Maybe Channing Frye has to be a Blazer first before they move him (to the Rockets to fill a need). (what team is dumb enough to trade for Francis) -you'd have to believe the Rockets are going to be exploring trades from here on out. Why not start now?
We also have a very solid small forward that isn't a great fit in an up tempo system and that the Rockets appear to be shopping (see Wilcox/Rashard rumors). We also need a PF and Channing Frye must be involved, because they have to wait for that trade to be finalized before this one takes place and you know it's not Franchise that's involved.
I'm not going to get excited though, because all the quotes from our end make it seem like there isn't a deal out there for us because they fell through. I don't think Morey is waiting on another deal to happen.
Honestly, a Frye+Fernadez for Battier trade does make a lot of sense for both teams. Frye and Aldridge are a bit redundant, the Blazers do need a little veteran leadership and some outside shooting, the Rockets need a 4, they were hot for Fernandez, etc. But I’m 99% certain the “small forward” Pritchard is referring to is James Jones.
Solid mid range game. In his rookie year, he was attempting dunks on everyone. Recently, though, he seems a bit soft. not the rebounder we're looking for despite his 6-11 height. He's basically the opposite version of Camby, good offense for a big man, bad defense for a big man.
