You know what would make us all feel good right now. Start the Rookies. I think it would be super if Brooks and Landry live up to the scouting reports. If so, Brooks would be very quick and have a very good midrange game along with the ability to get to the basket. He would have to be given time to adjust so that he doesn't try to do too much and have a bunch of turnovers. But basically he can break down guys off the dribble much like Chris Paul. Landry would be Chuck Hayes with a legitimate offense threat. Yao, TMac, Landry, Battier, Brooks You are younger more athletic and you can bring James, Head and Hayes off the bench. We will still need to trade for a backup center if you don't like Jake It would really improve our team if these picks turn out to be the real deal. Thoughts?
Since none of the guys on the roster are 'Rick's Boys', there is probably a better than usual chance of that happening. I expect Rick will simply go through training camp and start the 5 guys he believes gives us the best chance of winning. Better than usual chance, but still not highly likely though.
Are you saying that Brooks could possibly be worse than Rafer? I don't think so. I think Chuck is probably better than Landry, certainly on the defensive end, but Landry does a lot of the same things that Chuck does and he brings some O and athleticism. You could argue that there is not even a drop off there. I think that team, barring injuries, could certainly make the playoffs.
haha, mike james might end up in a mental hospital if they trade rafer and then a 26th pick rookie starts in front of him..
I doubt those two can even make the rotation. james/alston for all the pg times tmac/battier/wells for most 2/3 times and it seems vspan will stay and be promised pt at 1 or 2 I think we will pack a combination of sura/snyder/head/vspan/novak for a big man we will sign another big man with mle hayes will be a 20 minutes backup and there's yao i know coach a is no jvg, but there's just not enough pt for the rookies, especially the guard positions.
Well it wouldn't take much to improve over Rafer and Chuck- they both belong on someone's bench. I was just thinking of something really good happening to us for a change. Like when we drafted a guy named Cassell no one knew much about. And a guy named Horry who didn't have a position or an outside shot. It would be nice if Brooks was something like a Chris Paul. That would be the steal of the draft. And Chuck just doesn't give you anything except hustle which is ok until you get to go against the big boys at the 4 spot. I know that they don't start the season starting, but if they were really 'sleeper' picks- well it would be about time we did something right on the draft.
LOL. No way that startin' lineup would work. Of course Rafer is better than Brook. He has played a long time in this leauge - that's a lot. Maybe we should put Newley and Novak ?
Haha you're kidding right? Landry will be in the rotation, and log considerable minutes this season at PF
I also think Landry will be in the rotation. He's young, athletic ans strong. He can defend. We need that type of guys. Now he just has to work so hard and prepare himself for the NBA. Hopefully he could handle it
Of course, even the original poster knows rookies don't leap veterans in the rotation. Brooks won't start over Alston or James, though he could make Rafer expendable to a team in desperate need of a one. Landry will no doubt get a chance. He reminds me of Haslem coming to Miami from Europe. If he can even give us rotation minutes with Hayes off the bench, then the MLE or Sura's contract could easily get us a combo-post who can rotation in there as well. I think Hayes gets a bad rap, but he is the perfect bench player: athletic, tough, energetic, rebounds, defends, and moves well without the ball. He simply doesn't have the length or offensive game to give us 30 mpg there. Landry might, though.
rhester, Sam finished games, but didn't start them. Sam and Rob were huge surprises with their impact, so you can never say never. (give me a chance and I'll think of some more clichés!) I agree with kaleidosky that James would have a nervous breakdown if Brooks ended up being that good and became the starter. Alston will be playing for somebody else next season (IMO, and the opinion of a bunch of us here), so Brooks is going to see a lot of minutes. He'll have his chance in camp and during the season to prove himself. I just don't see the guy pushing James aside during his first year. I'm assuming we'll pick up a 4 with the MLE or a trade, but Landry excites me, the more I read about him. Would like to see some more film of the guy. Both of these guys will have every opportunity to get significant minutes. After last season, though, I certainly understand your desire for the dudes to start!
Amir Johnson, you guys heard of him? Is he better than rookie Landry? Anyway, I like Sean Williams most, who's been selected by Nets.
I could see Landry starting over Hayes unless we trade for a legitimate starting PF. Landry can be a starter but I would feel more comfortable with him comin off the bench to begin with. I really don't see Brooks starting to begin the season. I really think that TMac will be runnin most of the point and have James play more of a 2 guard. If TMac brings the ball up the court then we can still get out and run some. I do like the idea of starting both Brooks and Landry but I just don't think its going to happen.
