Portland is not going to sign all their second-rounders, so maybe just maybe Josh McRoberts will be released. They got enough front court players; Oden, Aldridge, Frye, Outlaw (SF/PF), LaFrentz, Joel Przybilla and Luke Schenscher. Look for Portland not to sign McRoberts.
Posted by studogg and agreed to by Kturner77 Hey studogg and KT77 - Piss off and die!!! I've never said anything approaching that to a fellow board member before but who the f*ck are you to attack my feelings about the piece of sh*t draft that close to 90 % if this board is equally disappointed in??? You can both kiss my ass while you're busy on your knees in front of Daryl and Les. To say stupid crap like "I wanted Harold friggin Minor instead of Horry demonstrates the level of your arrogant assholiness!" You don't even know me punk!! What I want is what we all want, for the ROX to get better... but I'd also like very much to stop feeling as though we are getting our asses kicked by every other teams front office on every single draft night! I'd like you both to look very carefully at all the "basketball experts" draft night grades over the next few days and then tell me to shut up you punk!! I will allow that getting Shane was not a "bad" deal and probably helped us secure a higher seed, but it ABSOLUTELY DID NOT get us past the 1st round...... AGAIN!!!!! And since you apparently know SO much about basketball... maybe you'll also know that the last time we did was more than 10 years ago!!!! I never claimed to be a GM, and I never questioned anyone's belief in a single draft pick tonight or any other night, but when I feel a deep and unabiding sense of doom regarding the ROX playoff futures following the acquisition of crap nobody else would have drafted under pain of death, I have every right to say anything I want about it without you telling me to shut up or using any other kind of insulting language you ass!!! So, until all those "what-ifs" you posted come true and we actually compete for more than a decent seed in the playoffs... then you and your buddy KT77 can both go to hell!!! Have a nice night, punk!!
I've seen alot of bad rox drafts from john turner to derrick cheivous to steve harris to buck johnson, but this has to be the worst pick in recent memory. They drafted a guy in brooks whom everyone had in the 2nd rd. to top that off they did the same thing in taking another small player when the need is clearly a need to get bigger. maybe they have something in the works, this does nothing for the rox. isn't there a law on how many sub 6'3 guys a team can have?
After getting James...we get a 6th pg. There was still tiago splitter, nick fazekas, josh mcroberts, even glen davis. but no ...now we have another undersized pg and ANOTHER undersized pf
Interesting message. Anyway, you all are way too upset about Brooks. Smart pick. Dude is only getting better with every game. I am old -- I know things.
Yes...the sheer courage it takes to whine about a basketball team is so impressive... At 26 the Rockets are smart to draft the best player available. Brooks is a winner, he's fast as lightning and is a lights-out shooter. I would have picked Spitter (if only for the name), but I don't study these players like they do and I tend to agree with the idea that it is harder to find good bigs late in the drafts. The Rockets still have some moves to make, so I hope the hysterical majority can withhold their pantie soiling until training camp starts up.
It also says a great deal about how little Adelman thinks of our talent at the one if he believes we have to add yet another player of that position. If this pick solidifies that position for years to come then I'm excited about that. -- Regardless, no point in complaining about an unknown commodity at this point. I'll reserve judgment because I think we did attempt to make a long term fix for one of our weakest positions. Mike James alone isn't going to solve that problem and we all know the less playing time Alston gets the better. Lucas, Spanoulis also probably get squeezed but I'm not so sure Billy wants to be here anyway.
If I had to choose between size and athleticism, I pick Athleticism every time Brooks was a good pick up. I know we have too many guards now, but he is quick, can score, and since I think we were going to trade some guards anyway, he will fit. Plus Adelman likes him so he will play. Also, Brooks wouldn't have been there at 31. Splitter's buyout would never have been paid by Les, so drafting a PF that we get in a year is pointless. Did I think about Laundry before we drafted him? No, but if he is as athletic as he is said to be, and basically a Chuck Hayes that can score & shoot, then good pick. Fazekas is slow, and had a lot of questions on true strength. I've heard so many people on this board say that McRoberts was too wimpy, not strong, and couldn' score. If those are weakness at 20-25, why aren't those weaknesses at 31? if you can get a player who may be able do those a lot better, but be a bit smaller would you take him? Basically, its that situation where teams always take players who are 7 ft, etc, because they could develop their athleticism, Bball IQ, scoring, and hustle. But the fact is that, if they had that with their size they would be one of the top few picks in teh draft (i.e Oden, Hawes). Size is important, but when your drafting for a need position at 31, you take the player who has the athleticism and has proven they have stength, offensive game, etc Is it a risk to take Landry over the others? Yes, but it also a risk to take McRoberts/Fazekas/Baby & see if they will develop. Basically I could see Brooks & Landry becoming Alston 2.0 & Hayes 2.0. think for a second that from the #26 & #31 picks in a draft, you could be getting two players who are better than your current starters. Many have said Alston is a good back-up PG & Hayes is a back up PF, so at worst you are getting much better back ups, and at best you are getting 2 potential starters. A lot of you are jumping to huge conclusions way too soon. I'm not saying we shouldn't still try to trade for a PF, but this draft was not horrible by any means.
I reserve judgement, many of us ate our words about the Battier trade last year. I also did not see us being a major player in this draft anyway, but I will admit that I think that we got screwed by the Jazzholes again. My heart absolutely sank when I saw them draft Morris Almond. He's not a great athlete by any stretch, but he has decent length to man the 2 spot, and he has good range, both things that we need . I am still hopeful that free agency brings something nice, let's keep our heads up.
Oh my. I don't think it was a right decisions. We got another 2 point guards....What are they doin'? Now we have only Pg.....We'll see but I hoped that we traded those picks.
I'm gonna wait until Oct. 1 or whenever training camp officially starts to judge our moves. So far, I'm liking this offseason. We have James and Bonzi. And yes, Bonzi is a new addition because he WAS NOT here last year. I will miss Howard, but to trade away his contract for a player that will score double digits for us for the next 2-3 years. And there is interest in V-Span and Head. (Everyone is always interested in getting Head!) Obviously, our next move in our PF. Then we will see WTF this offseason is all about. Webber anyone???
I think a lot of us are just angry we didn't do what was expected. Don't eat your words. 04-05 it was Wayne Simien, 05-06 it was Gay and now a PF. In the end I think 2/3 guys we drafted will help us in the long run.
Good post. But honestly, there will almost always be complainers. There were people complaining when we picked Yao. The most excited I've ever seen this board on draft night was when we traded for Eddie Griffin, and look how that turned out. The fact of the matter is none of us know how these guys will turn out. It could very well be that one or both of these guys end up being a steal. It could also be that they all end up being busts. If that happens - well, the 26 pick is always a gamble, but the other two picks were basically acquired for free anyway. Yeah, we gave up a future 2nd rounder for Landry, but that pick will A.) probably be a much lower pick than 31 and B.) be easily replaced by buying another 2nd round pick. There is always somebody willing to sell a 2nd rounder. So I'm with you. I honestly don't know what people expected. Yesterday we had one shot at drafting the right guy. Today we got three shots. If just one of them pans out, we're ahead. I'm excited to see what happens, and I'm also excited to see which guards we trade. Obviously a trade is coming. Hell, that's why I'm still awake - though I'm about ready to give up on finding out about an additional trade tonight.
Reading quotes from Bird, it looked like the Rockets were going to trade Almond to the Pacers for Diogu. I bet that would have pissed off the virtual badass GM's on this board
dont know how it exactly works, but i suppose we can still have glen davis or mcroberts by trading for their rights, right ? if so, a future 1st round pick for mcroberts or glen davis would be fine to me ^^ espcially mcroberts ...
I know a trade is coming - or straight up signing... but damn. I had to go drink the bar dry of whiskey just to deal with the Rocket's consitent farkin' up of the draft picks. We do pretty well when we have the 1st pick but anything else and I'm left with a big fat wtf. I just don't get it... I guess if I had coaching experience or knew a ball boy on a first named basis I would understand. *splish*
