How in the world does Portland have room for all these new players. There HAS to be a trade. They got: Oden, Fernandez, Kopponen, Green, Nichols, plus Francis, Frye, etc. So Jarret Jack, Sergio Rodriguez, or someone is getting traded.
It seems unlikely that Koponen will come over from Europe, Francis will be bought out, and Jack's been on the trading block for at least a month now.
lol - all the basketball "experts" are calling this a great move. I can't understand it. You saddled yourself with more salary at a position you already committed salary and trade suicide over to get Curry. You've taken on a well-known knucklehead. You got rid of one of your better "cheap" guys in Frye. I mean, the "smart" thing to do would have been to buy Steve out - not trade him for another gi-normous contract.
And the gi-normous contract they absorbed in place of SF's is: $13MM/$15MM/$16MM/$17MM over the next 4 years!
its not better to buy someone out when you can trade them for a productive player. I don't know where randolph is gonna fit on the knicks with curry and lee, but he has more room to play than francis.
I'm disappointed to hear the Blazers want to buy out Francis' contract. It sounds like a place he could get his game back on track. And, I don't see him coming here after a buyout with James already here.
worst rebound? you must be kidding. zach has gone 20-10 twice in his career. if you believe that, then the rockets have the worst rebounding frontcourt in the history of the world. randolph maybe a headcase, but he puts up the numbers.
Agreed, and he is young. Despite Roy as ROY, ZR was Portland's best player last year. By trading Randloph the Blazer's got worse, certainly in the short term. He was the most natural guy to pair with Oden. Chandler, Alridge, Laffrez, really more softish centers than power forwards. Aldridge is probably their best option, but his best position is C. Portland is going to have major scoring problems this year, and they are ackward in the PF spot, real difficulty in matching up with the mobile PFs.
nyc is ZBO's hometown. He'll be pumped to play for his howmtown team. Knicks arent ever gonna get under the cap so they might as well get more talented, and they did. Finally an isiah move i aprrove.
he is not redundant. if you've been watching zbo for the last couple of years, he actually has developed a very consistent jumper with range out to the 3 point line. no longer is he just the blackhole in the middle. for that reason alone, i like this deal for nyc. and while, yes, he is making a lot of money, you have to realize that ny plays by a different set of rules than most other teams. because of there revenue stream, the salary cap and luxury tax is simply a non-issue. now, defensively, i can see a potential problem with a curry/zbo frontcourt. it'll be interesting to see if their offense can offset that. if not, though, they still have a very impressive david lee to rotate in.
I liken this trade to Phoenix trading away Stephon Marbury for cap space and draft picks. Short-term, it hurt them pretty badly, but in the long term it helped them out tremendously. It allowed their young core players (Amare, Joe Johnson, Barbosa, etc.) to gain valuable experience and it allowed their head coach to experiment more. I’m expecting Portland to be mediocre next season, but their young players like Oden, Sergio Garcia, Martell Webster, Rudy Fernandez, and Aldridge are going to grow so much more than they would with Randolph hogging the ball.
even though zach may be unstable...he is a helluva player. The guy can score just about anywhere and anyway he wants. It should be interesting to see how he and curry share the forward spots, but honestly its a good move for NY. Curry isnt consistent enough to man the paint by himself
