This happened 25 years ago so hopefully he's learned by now just how INCREDIBLY STUPID that was. But who really knows. Poeple who are inherently mean to animals don't normally change.

If he would have put the dog in the back of a truck this would be a non-story.

At least he didn't do what Clark Griswold did in National Lampoon's Vacation.

Motorcycle Cop: Do you know what the penalty for animal cruelty is in this state?
    Clark: No, sir, I don't.
Motorcycle Cop: Well... it's probably pretty stiff.

Ooh ooh, and I bet he got pulled over for it, but the guy who pulled him over was that staffer who likes to pretend he's a cop and Mitt saw through him and then they fell in love and that's why they're still together. Mostly.

It's his property, it's his dog.

What's more hilarious is that the original article reporting Mitt's Griswald moment tries to paint this as some kind of Profile in Leadership-

I mean when making the "command decision" to hose off a sh_tty dog/car and managing to complete the task without sh_tting yourself is considered evidence of your crisis management qualities something has gone awry in this country. Bush has really lowered the bar.

Sounds like something my dad would do when he gets angry. Anyone else have a dad that would go into anger tantrums on trips?

So are we discounting the possibility that the dog **** because it was a 12 hour trip and dogs usually have to go every so often, on top of a car or otherwise?

"It's wrong to ever criticize any Republican for anything ever because some Democrat did something once too."

(Somehow, no matter what you enter into this thing it comes back with a rolleyes. It's the darndest thing.)

As a dog owner, I find this most definitively cruel, regardless of whether the dog shat or not. We're talking about a living thing here, by most owners considered to be part of the family, not a piece of luggage.
