i felt really bad when Queen of the Damned came out and i thought it and her were god awful but she had just died. It was like awwww she died but she really can't act.

Julio -- you're brilliant. i think you win. i think that summer girls song is so bad it's good. seriously. i'm singing that song the other day in the shower for no reason whatsoever. New Kids on the Block had a bunch of hits Chinese food makes me sick and I think it's fly when girls stop by for the summer for the summer seriously, that's just awful. to the point of being comic. which then makes it brilliant. because it's so awful.
-Top 40 music (of any genre) in at least the past 8 years. -Mass appeal 80's music, especially if targetting middle aged women and prominantly featured in soundtracks (I.E. Dirty Dancing). -The advent of 70's "soft rock". -Country music after the "outlaw" genre faded away, and Nashville decided cleavage and drum machines were the way of the future. -Rap post-Public Enemy -R&B/Soul post-Marvin Gaye -Alternative music pretty much at the point it started being called "alternative music" by record companies. The end result is appropriating trends of original ideas and churning out craptastic "goth" like Evanessence, "punk" like Avril Levine and "alternative rock" like Korn. -Anything engineered to appeal to suburban teenage girls: New Kids on The Block, New Edition, Brittney Spears and nearly anything not called the Monkees. -haircut (AKA "butt" rock of the 80's). -House / trance So in the end, what we have left is that which is not overexposed manufactured pop music, is to generalize: Blues, Willie Nelson, alt-country, gospel, free jazz, and world music (which, to me, would include the electronic stuff that doesn't offend the ear). I'm not sure what to nominate...although, last night, in a bar, "Ice Ice Baby" was played at loud volumes with absolutely no ironic intent and listened to with straight faces and tapping feet. I'll have to go with that one. It's still stuck in my head...the background singer whispering: "Ice Ice Baby to Goooo, to Goooo." May Zach Wheat save us all.
