I don't like Fran either, but if this blog was written by someone we like I'm sure most of you would be praising it. I was cold, sarcastic, and as realistic as it gets. Its better not to expect much if anything from Bonzi (even with Coach A.) Why get your hopes up? If he does manage to contribute even a little bit it will be a pleasant suprise.

Not a Fran fan, but I found that blog pretty damn funny. With a non-apologist article from Richard Justice today slamming Purpura, the Chronicle must have spun into an alternative universe.

I love when people say something is realistic when it isn't at all.

Do we honestly believe Bonzi will carry us to the Finals? No.

However, do we believe he could be an solid/roleplayer in a run to the Finals? Possible, yes.

Do we know for a fact that Bonzi would have gotten us past Utah last year? No.

Was our problem anyone scoring besides McGrady and Yao? Yes.
Could Bonzi have helped in that department and provided a solid scoring punch off of the bench? Possible, yes.

Do we believe Bonzi will guard Carlos Boozer should we have to play them again? No.

Seriously, what is the point of this article? Who in Houston, or on this messageboard specificly, thinks this is the final piece in turning Houston into a championship contender and that we should just sit on our hands for the rest of the summer? Seriously, who thinks that?

Fran Blinebury lost with this one.

We all have doubts about Bonzi, but sarcasm will get you nowhere. Ok, Bonzi isn't the end all to save all, but! he is one of the many pieces to the puzzle. Think of Zelda, you don't fight Gannondorf first thing out of the hatch, you have to collect weapons, learn their uses, fight lesser bosses. Bonzi is the boomerang. you throw him out, he comes back. You don't think he's that useful until you find a boss where the boomerang is the only weapon that works against him. While Yao and Tmac are your biggoron sword and shield, Bonzi is important too. I hope my nerdy analogy didn't bore you guys.

Sarcasm is, if memory serves, a literary device used to make a point by exaggeratedly stating the inverse of your actual point - making a point and scoring mild comedic points in the process. It is catching on as a tool in newspapers, in web-based basketball communities, and such television programs as "Friends" - the character Chandler is quite deft with amusing comments which classify as "sarcasm." It's quite a phenomenon. Maybe I will attempt to utilize it in my own description of sarcasm as an example. Maybe I will use the sarcasm smiley as further demonstration.

Come on, guys, lay off - it's just Franny as usual, getting loose with an expired take. His point, as usual, is delivered with the subtlety and sophistication - and weird metaphors - of a Gallery Furniture commercial doused in Capt'n Crunch*. But at least it's fran - i have grown to love him in the way i love bad bands, he's like the cranky echo chamber to c-list Clutch Fans discussions of a week ago.

Fran's piece was a good idea, poor execution. Just not very clever.

The "sophistication" must be really, really subtle.

Sarcasm can be funny. It would be funny if you sprinkled your column with it. It would be funny if sarcasm wasn't your only route to "humor." It would be funny if it was not so contrived.

Fran Blinebury is not a satirist. He writes like a bitter old man that hates what he does for a living.

Bitter is the word. I love to read sarcastic funny bits, but Fran's picece isnt funny to me before I read other's comments. You can blow sarcastic ape shiat out of an egg being egg but that's just not going to be funny without much sense.

The sarcasm sounds more like from a mediocre poster here than from a professional writer for a big city newspaper.

I can't stand it when people write long sarcastic rants. It's a whole freakin' page! Sarcasm to me is much better in one-liners sprinkled throughout real writing. This hack should hang it up. He has passed up Justice on my **** list.

Any publicity the Rockets can get from the Chron needs to be on the positive side. The town has basically turned its back on the Rockets, and if I weren't a die-hard fan I would be with them. The Rocks need to keep making solid moves before soccer passes it up in the pecking order. Maybe it already has...

    I am confused
