    Why:
New York: gets an athletic and tall swingman (last time i checked, i don't remember NY having one) and a three point threat. They have enough young talent, and don't need the pick. Also, no room for Frye with Balkman, Lee, Curry and J.Jeffries.

Houston: gets a young athletic PF/C with Frye and another first round pick to draft another player that can create and/or a big body PF/C. With this Rockets get depth in the PF/C position.

Frye may be the most plausible idea I've seen in some time. His value is at an all time low considering Lee becoming an absolute man and his perceived regression in his sophomore season. He became to perimeter happy last season but I think he could thrive in the type of Adelman offense we're expecting. Isiah seems to have a fetish for shoot-first ones so maybe we could put Head over on him. Who knows.

He probably is but Harrington is good too. He can shoot 3s and he played C in Golden State sometimes :)

Alright here is my wild ass trade proposal:

    Rockets trade:
    Luther Head
    Rafer Alston
    26 pick

    To New York for:
    David Lee
    Jerom James

With a deal that they will buy out Steve Francis. Rockets sign Stevie for the vet minimum.

    Why the Rockets do it:
We get our PF to put next to Yao for the next several years. We get Steve Francis back who we can pair with Mike James to run the point. While I am not high on Jerome James we get a 7 foot back up that is probably just as good as Big Jake to back up Yao.

    Why the Knicks do it:
They get the sharp shooting guard that the Knicks have been talking about wanting. They get a legit back up PG that can back Starbury. They get to unload Jerome James salery. And they get the number 26 draft pick in a deep draft.

Rockets Line Up would look like:
    James / Francis / Lucas
    Battier / Francis / Snyder
    TMac / Battier / Novak
    Lee / Hayes / Novak / Reed
    Yao / James

I think Battier and 26 for Aldridge is the most likely trade scenario.

But yeah, would really like for us to try and get Aldridge, esp if Portland has plans to keep Zbo and draft Oden.

Any interest in a big player swap with NY Knicks? How about SF3, David Lee, and Nate Robinson for Alston, Sura, Battier, Head, and JL? Lee is the ideal PF to put next Yao, I like SF as a 6th man, Robinson would provide a spark off the bench with his game changing energy ala Derrick Armstrong back in the day.

NYK gets out of SF3's deal with out a buyout, and gets a good back up PG, a good 3 point shooter in head, saves some money with Sura, and Battier provides veteran leadership and experience.

    Rockets

    James
    Wells or SF3
    Tmac
    Lee
    Yao

Robinson, SF3 or Wells, Vspan, Hayes, Novak, draft pick

    NYK

    Marbury
    Crawford
    Battier
    Frye
    Curry

    Head, Jefferies, Cato, QRich ect.....

Holy Crap! I did not see Crash's post - although mine is a little different

    Rasheed Wallace
    #15

    for

    Shane Battier
    Bob Sura
    V-Span

Detroit gets rid of a headache. Detroit already has PFs ready to replace Sheed. Detroit drops 2.8 mil salary (Sura) to help re-sign Chauncey Billups. Detroit's GM (I think) likes V-Span

Houston gets the PF it needs and a draft pick to grab Thaddeus Young or whomever as a we'll-have-a-future-stud-now.

I don't see NY giving up Lee, but I do think Frye could be pried away, and I'd love it if they'd take Alston for him. NY would be the perfect place for Alston, since he was a playground legend there, and would have great marketing value, finally bringing him home where he belongs, even if he's Starbury's backup. I'd give them Head too, if we got a draft choice out of it.

I believe Frye will end up the better player anyway. But Frye or Lee would be a great off-season pickup for Houston.

What I'd love most would be if we traded Alston to NY for Frye, Head to NO for Simmons, sign Amir Johnson with our MLE, bought a draft choice from PHI and packaged with ours to move up in the draft and get Acie Law or Javaris Crittendon.

From what I've read, the Maloofs nixed us getting Artest, because they don't want to help Adelman, even though the coach and GM wanted our offer of Snyder, Sura and Vspan. That sucks, because I'd do that trade, since we're keeping Bonzi. Maybe if we sweetened the deal, by throwing in some money, they'd do the deal, but Les probably won't do that. But, if that happened, our off-season would be successful.

It'd be great if VSpan got his head screwed on right, and could step it up, but that's probably wishful thinking.

If Francis is bought out, it would be great to pick him up, but I fear it won't happen. But, if it did, we'd have a much more athletic team to pull of Adelman ball, maybe even win it all:

    Yao/Deke/Frye
    Johnson/Simmons/Hayes
    Artest/Battier/Novak
    TMac/James/Wells
    Francis/VSpan/Crittendon or Law

Unfortunately, I don't think that Artest, Francis or VSpan will happen, so we'll see what opportunities come up to fill those spots.

If we trade VSpan to Dallas for their #34 and take Gabe Pruitt, Koponen, or Green, then we could pick up Thadeus Young with our earlier pick ... and then just send Sura to Golden State for Sarunas Jasikevicius. We'd have:

    Yao/Deke/Frye
    Johnson/Simmons/Hayes
    Battier/Young/Novak
    TMac/Wells/Snyder
    James/Jasikevicius/Green

I'm not sure that team would win it all, although I think they'd get out of the first round, but they'd have upcoming talent in all positions with some depth, and be in a better position to do that next year and the following as Johnson, Frye, Simmons, Snyder, Young and Green mature, and when TMac retired, we wouldn't be screwed.

Wow! If Morey and the rest of the Rox front office get this done, they can go on vacation for the rest of the year and and Morey will still win Exec of the year.

    Josh Smith
    Salary: $1,460,640 Years Remaining: 2
    PTS: 16.4 REB: 8.6 AST: 3.3 PER: 18.39

Outgoing Players: Rafer Alston, Luther Head, #26 pick

This works because the Hawks are under the cap. The Hawks get something for Smith instead of losing him most likely for nothing. Alston can be a mentor to whatever PG the Hawks draft and then back him up after that. They also get a 3 point threat in Head who can help space the floor for their many forwards who cannot hit from the outside.

The Rockets get a shotblocking machine to play the 4 who can also rebound at an above average clip.

Maybe, maybe not, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

    Alston James (Spanoulis/Lucas)
    McGrady Head (Newley-late 2nd round)
    Battier Bonzi Reed
    Gooden Hayes Novak
    Yao (Davis/Fazekas/Williams-26th) Deke

Cavs want to re-sign Pavlovic and Varejao. Dumping Gooden could keep them under LT.

Rockets trade Sura + Snyder for Gooden. Snyder replaces Pavlovic for them them, Sura is salary dump. Gooden has two years remaining. If he doesn't work out he's an expiring contract the next year.

Davis/Fazekas/Williams can cover both PF & C. It's an each way bet, they could potentially replace Gooden or Deke.

Depending on whether Spanoulis stays they Rockets trade either Lucas or Spanoulis for a late second rounder. I don't think they can get a higher one. Teams know Spanoulis is a malcontent and Lucas is an under-sized third option PG.

Rockets did have an eye on Newley when one else were looking at him. He was compared to Dan Majerle by an Atlanta Hawks scout. He gets through traffic to make it to the hoop and can hit the outside shot. Posters here will love him as they do with guys who can dunk with authority.

He averaged 17 PPG against the Jazz as a 3rd (sometimes 4th and 5th) option. Shot 46% from the field, 47% from 3-pt range.

Our Utah series was so neck-and-neck, he could have easily been the difference whenever we went through those numerous droughts where we couldn't score a point and our bench was completely useless.

Granted, I will admit he's certainly not our ideal PF since I agree that he is a bit soft and doesn't rebound very well. I'd still be willing to take a chance on him though if he came at the right price.

Why would the Hawks give up their top rebounder and defensive steals guy for those two scrubs? Smith stats are almost up there with Artests.

Here is one hell of a wacky trade scenario. Minny and LA are trying to make a deal that would send KG to LA. Minny wants cap relief, draft picks and some talent as well. Boston dropped out of the proposed deal because they did not want to give up Al Jefferson. I say let Houston step in and take Bostons place.

    Houston trades:
    Bob Sura's contract to Minny
    Snyder to LA
    Battier to Indy
    Head to Indy

    Houston recieves:
    Lamar Odom
    2007 #40 draft pick

    Minny trades:
    Garnett to LA

    Minny recieves:
    Jermain O'Neal
    Sura's contract
    2007 #19 draft pick
    2007 #48 draft pick

    LA trades:
    Lamar Odom to Houston
    Kwame Brown to Indy
    Andrew Bynum to Indy

    La recieves:
    Snyder
    Garnett

    Indy trades:
    Jermain O'Neal to Indy

    Indy recieves:
    Battier
    Head
    Brown
    Bynum

This gives Houston a starting line up of

    Starters
    James
    Bonzi
    TMac
    Odom
    Yao

    Bench:
    Alston
    Hayes
    Novak
    VSpan
    John Lucas
    Justin Reed

We would have 2 picks that I would personally use on Morris Almond if available at the 26 spot. One of these three if one is available withthe #40 pick Petteri Koponen , Glen Davis or Kyrylo Fesenko.

And I would still have the full MLE to spend in free agency.

Our starting 5 would be strong but our bench would be weak unless we made some more trades or guys like VSpan and Novak really responds to Adelmans offense.
