Shouldn't Hakeem be eligible for the Hall of Fame this year?

His last season was the 01-02 season. That would mean he has sat out the last 5 seasons. I think he tried to play in 02-03 but he never got in a game in the regular season. Would his 5 year buffer only take into effect after he filed his papers (which might have been after the 02-03 season)?

Hakeem really hasn't had the universal respect he deserves but I think a hall of fame induction will make everyone reexamine his career and see how unique his style of play was. I bet we'll see that same Robinson-Hakeem exchange over and over.

Whatever the first year of eligibility is for him is the year he goes into the Hall. Both doors will open wide and Stern will hold his hat.

The man was so good that he didn't even revolutionize the position, since no one can do what he did. I think that it'll be a long time before someone like Hakeem comes along again.

He'll be eligble at the next voting which will be next April. The eligibilty is 5 years, but with they way the voting/induction is scheduled, you are inducted 6 years after you retire because in April, the official NBA season hasn't ended, therefore, someone isn't technically 5 years removed. I believe they enshrine folks in September. Hakeem will get voted on in April of 2008 and inducted in September 2008. Him and Patrick Ewing will go in together.

The 2009 class will be a good one....Jordan, Stockton, and Robinson

He's that bum who ruined the Wizards by picking and lobotomizing Kwame Brown.

I believe he was on a roster in 02-03 which would negate him. It does not matter that he never played.
