Very well said, I will just add that Spanoulis will join the training camp of national team of Greece this summer and prepare for the European Championship competition, so he can't play in any summer league.
Since when was playing time guaranteed, especially for a rookie from Europe? If CD did promise him playing time, I'm not surprised. CD has made promises that went unfulfilled before. Notice how JVG did not guarantee him playing time. Shouldn't that had played a part of his decision to come here? Don't sit there and act like V-Span was forced to come here. He said himself that his dream was to come to the NBA and play with the best players. People act like V-Span never played or got a chance. He had a chance in the preseason, which is where he became the "Turnover Machine". Went Kirk went down, V-Span got some time to shine. It may not have been his pure position but he did get a chance. Wonder why JL3 got the nod before him? Maybe its because he actually looked comfortable out there with the ball and the fact that he can hit a couple open jumpers helped him a lot. Now, I want V-Span to be our backup next season just as much as the next fan, but if he wants to be a big baby about last season, let him do whatever he pleases.
And on a semi-related note... Panathinaikos just won game 5 of the greek championship finals to get the 9th Championship in the last 10 years and becoming one of a handful of teams to do a triple crown in europe winning the euroleague, national championship and national cup in the same year.... (Just to get a feel of the level of competition of the greek championship, the top 3 Greek teams were also in the top 16 of the euroleague) I say related because it's the kind of success Span might feel he's missing out on... BTW... my personal opinion is that he'll probably be here next year and I think everything will get cleared up right after the draft
Holy Mierda! Scientist (with 4 posts to your name), please back this "opinion" up with fact. You are, after all, a scientist. So please back this up with your wise observations.
I think VSPAN could be good if he learns to shoot better... we can all see that he can pass and penetrate...everyone that says he sucks says it because of what he did during the season were he was under preasure to impress jvg for playing time... watch him with greece and you will see what he realy has to offer same for john lucas
Rafer. Is that you? Did you somehow learn to shoot or penetrate in the last 6 weeks? At least the guy you hate can do 1 of those two things
Greek press is reporting that Panathinaikos are waiting to find out what will happen with Spanoulis as well so I don't think anyone really knows... If he somehow ends up agreeing to break his contract with the Rockets, PAO will pick him up. In case he stays with the Rockets, they will sign Milos Theodosic... Also, although the Greek NT has an exhibition game against the European all-stars on the 30th of June and Span will probably play there, the Greek NT's training for the Eurobasket 2007 does not start till the end of July. So in theory Span could end up playing in the summer league. I think it will all be cleared up on draft-day.
I am a fan of his game... but this is getting really annoying. I hope he can just make up his damn mind. Although I would be greatly disappointed if he decided to leave the rockets.
I think that there is almost zero chance that the Rockets just let VSpan out of his contract. I think it is possible that he could be traded and then if that team is looking for some kind of cap relief they may let him out.
It seems more annoying than it is because we discuss it a lot and because he gets mentioned a lot by people recognising he has a lot of talent...However he hasn't talked to the media or made any move whatsoever...He just seems to be thinking it over. But I wouldnt expect him to have had an answer before draft day....Same as bonzi has a response deadline then... I'm sure it's a very difficult decision for him and he has to think about it very carefully.. He's smartly stayed away from the media here in greece and is probably just weighing it all up... I'm sure we'll have answer in a couple of days...
Wrong. It's annoying because we are trying to put together our team for next year and we don't know if we can count on him or not. If not then it could be benificial to trade him prior to the draft for an extra pick or package him with our current pick to move up. Its annoying because as a player under contract that the owner, GM and coach want to utilize next year we don't know if we have to replace him or not.
Totally agree, it's getting old and annoying. If he had a mind to leave, getting James isn't going to help him think about coming back either.
Link: http://www.eurobasket.com/events/eluleb/06-07/eurol.asp?NewsNo=16 Papaloukas interview - talks about Spanoulis ------------------------------------------------------ Papaloukas: I want to go to the NBA! gave a press conference yesterday, since his camp will begin on July, both in Athens and Thessaloniki, and spoke about everything. Teo admitted the rumours that he is searching for a team in NBA, adding that this team should give him the playing time, the money and the victories that he used to enjoy in Europe. said that he would like a team where the coach would respect me and believe on what I can offer. I don't want to be like Vasilis Spanoulis that has the quality and the potentials to play in the league but he belongs to a team that hasn't given him the opportunity to play. Personally, I am interested mostly for teams such as San Antonio, Dallas, Detroit, Cleveland and Miami. . .
How you doing Rafer? I hope you're shooting 1000 jumpshots a day. i wish you could finish around the basket every now and then also. Have a great offseason...hopefully you'll be with another team.
If he is hoping that anybody will move Parker, Terry, Billups, possibly Gibson, and Wade (he plays more point anyway) for an European player, he is slightly deluded. Nobody, nobody comes overseas and gets the starting job and lots of minutes unless they are really, really good (Sabonis is the only one I can think of, aboslutely nobody else).
Everyone wants to go to a championship contending team. But if you go there don't expect to play, you can't just jump to the top of the class. If you want to get plenty of playing time go to Atlanta, Boston, etc.
