Yeah, I am insured - full coverage.
I have a 2007 Jetta ... its not even a month old yet so I dont know if it would be a good idea to take it.

I know you can buy insurance from the rental place for almost 20 bux a day but why do that if the credit card you are using is offering car rental insurance.

aeroman, i am a broke college student so i know how to goto vegas for cheap. ive been there 2 times (once flying, one road trip) and im going again next week. if you are staying on the strip, check the rates for these hotels: circus circus, imperial palace, excalibur, flamingo. circus is on the northern part but the others are located central strip. those hotels are the older ones so theyre not as nice as mgm, bellagio, but you wont spend that much time in it anyways. places like the palms and hard rock are the hotels where the 20-30 year old group is, but theyre located off the strip - not that far off though.

also, it depends on what you goto vegas for. i go for the gambling, to me all casinos are the same. those places i listed above also have the cheapest games. i won $500 on my last trip playing blackjack (my total trip was $300), and im looking for a big bump up this time around.

you have no faith in your car? come on dude. why waste your cash on a rental since you've spend $$$ on your car. you got all that stuff, roadside assistance, insurance etc. check it in the VW place in Vegas for a quick inspection.

if he's staying sun-tues, why not go to the better places for $99/day? they are splitting the rooms. plus if you are a hotel guest (like at the palms) you have a higher priority to get in the clubs. you dont have to wait in line that long. also if you meet some babes, telling them you are staying at the palms is better than telling them you are staying at circus circus.

Based on that map, you might find it more plesant to drive up to Amarillo and go on 40. Driving cross country through far-west Texas and southern New Mexico and Arizona can be a very warm, uncomfortable, boring experience. Driving further north would also reduce potential stress on your car.

If I were planning the trip, that would be my first thought.

We ended up booking the Luxor for about $80 per night (check in Sun and checked out Wed). On Sat. we will stay at a motel 8 ...lol ... we werent sure exactly when we would get there and alot of Hotels either make you check in on Friday or wanted to charge crazy prices on Sat.

The airplane ride to the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam was $120/person (excluding the extra fees that they charge)
Cirque du Soleil tickets were $108/person for the upper deck
Carrot Top tickets were about $60/person

not a bad choice the luxor. yeah, friday/sat that's when all the craziness happens. at least you have a car or its a cheap ride from motel 8 to the strip (i'm assuming you got the one close to the strip).
I guess on saturday, you should hit the hard rock and palms. they are slightly off the strip, but easy to get to to. really cheap cab ride or drive. its more of the younger crowd. I doubt you want to hang out with the old timers on saturday night. Tao at the Venetian or Pure at Ceasars is cool too.

The luxor seems like a good value. make sure you get a players club card so they might comp you some free meals.

    UPDATE:
    --------

Driving to Vegas was not bad. We took I-10 to Phoenix and then some very weird lonely highway numbered 93 I think. I took about 24 hrs - maybe a little less but thats counting all the stops - especially the Hoover Dam.

So we stayed at the Luxor. Tried gambling there just a little bit - lost $2.
First night we went to see Steve Wyrick Real Magic at Planet Hollywood which was really nice because the show was not sold out and they wanted everyone to move up so we got to sit on the 2nd row on the left side of the theater.

Next day we went to the other side of the strip. Won $50 at the Riviera.
Then we went to the Stratosphere to the top of the tower. Went on the rollercoasters there like 20 times and stayed to see American Superstars show.

The day after we went on the grand canyon and surrounding area tour by plane. It was fun but I dont think I would do that again. It was a small Cesna plane - no AC - and it was windy .... you can imagine the rest, but it was still nice. Then that night we went to see KA Cirque du Soleil show -- now that was awsome. I would return to Vegas just to see another Cirque show.

The ride back was FUN. Haha. While driving through the middle of nowhere in Arizona one of the cups we had in the cup holder started leaking and completely flooded that cup holder and the one below it and was going overboard so we pulled over. We had no napkins or paper towels but had to get the water out. My only solution was to start sucking through a straw and then spitting it out. My brother refused so I did it but some attempts didnt work out too well cause he kept on laughing and I was forced to laugh too. Then out of nowhere the Arizona Highway Patrol trooper stopped to see whats wrong. That was pretty fun especially since I kicked the cup outside. Luckily I had a spare one to show him.

Then in New Mexico we had to go through border patrol. We were laughing cause the dog kept on sniffing the truck carrying bread that was in front of us for a long time but then it was our turn. The officer took the dog around our car 10 times...Then there is TX where there are no gas stations for over 100 miles. So after desperately looking for one we ran out of gas in Ozona, TX. We stopped right past the exit and there was NOBODY there..not a living thing. I was thinking about the Hitcher, TX Chainsaw Massacare and all those other cool movies. We were 1.5 miles away from a gas station. Had to call 911 for a state trooper...haha

    It was really fun.

Haha..no clubs and we didnt go to the pool.
Yeah..I would not really recommend the airplane tour - pay more and go on a helicopter.
The shows were probably the best part of the trip. Checking out all of the hotels and malls wasnt bad either.
The guys on the street that hand out the cards for strip clubs were pretty funny. What do they do anyways. It seems they just stand there and snap the cards - nobody takes them though.

#1 they aren't for strip clubs.
#2 If no one takes them -- I doubt these guys would be getting paid to stand on the strip for as long as I can remember.

Oh yeah, the buffets were nice. Went to the one in Paris, Planet Hollywood, and Caesars Palace. They are expensive. I think it was somewhere around $16/person but it was worth it.
