I just read Misery by Stephen King over the weekend. I thought the movie itself was great, but one difference had me  ing this weekend.

in the movie, after the Kathy Bates' character finds out her "prisoner" had gotten out the room, she put a 2x4 between his ankles and proceeded to break his ankles with a sledgehammer.

in the book, she used an axe to cut off his foot and closed the wound with a blow torch!

In the fight club novel, they don't have anything about blowing up the credit card buildings. And the narrator created the whole tyler durden character because of his inability to approach the girl. Kind of lame if you ask me. One of the few instances where the movie changes the book and make it better.

"The Color Purple" book was totally different and more graphic than the movie.

The sledgehammer scene was one the only thing that was better than the book.

    Friday Night Lights

-In the movie, the Permian/Carter game was the state championship game played in the Astrodome. In the book, it was a semi-final game played in a cold and rainy Memorial Stadium in Austin.

-In the movie, the game was a shootout where Permian came back in the 2nd half. In the book, it was a defensive struggle (final score 14-9) and Permian was actually ahead 9-7 at halftime.

-In the movie, Boobie hurt his knee in a game. In the book, he hurt it during a preseason scrimmage.

-In the movie, that guys father (played by Tim McGraw) was mentally and physically abusive. In the book, he was tough but never abusive.

In the book "The 40 year old virgin", nothing really happens. :( The movie is hilarious. :D

A lot of the James Bond flicks deviated from the source material. The worst was You Only Live Twice. They really should've made that after On Her Majesty's Secret Service as a proper sequel.

American Psycho, the novel, is 1000x more graphic, disturbing, and awesome as the movie.

At one point in the book, he decapitates a hooker's head, has sex with her mouth repeatedly while macing her head. Then he walks around the apartment with her head mounted on his penis. It's pretty hilarious and for some reason left out of the movie

Jurassic Park was much darker in the novel than on the bigscreen. Hammond even dies.

I'm not sure if Spielberg even read the sequel before he made The Lost World.

I can't imagine why they would leave that part out of the movie.

There's a scene where Grant and the kids have to deal with T-Rex at a lake or lagoon and the T-Rex can swim! They take a raft down river also and it leads them to a giant aviary where they have to deal with pterodactyls.

I think the way they finally get back is after running form the T-Rex at the lake, they try to hide behind a waterfall and find a door that leads to an access tunnel and they drive a golf cart back to the main compound.

Oh, and Raptor babies were making their way to the boat and getting on the mainland and there's reports of dinosaurs making it to costa rica and eating soy bean crops to get the enzyme they need to stay alive.

Oh, the way Hammond dies is that after power is restored, they are sitting tight at the main lodge not aware that the Raptors have escaped and the kids are messing with the computer and start playing recorded t-rex roars through the speakers and Hammond gets scared while he was walking alone outside and runs away and falls down a hill breaking his leg. He's then killed by a pack of the little poisonous dinosaurs, the compies.

If I recall correctly, they also changed the way she killed the sheriff. In the movie she shoots him, but in the book I think she runs him over with a riding mower.

Da Vinci Code: Sorry but Tom Hanks (great actor) + Ron Howard (great director) = terrible movie. The book was a real page turner made you really feel very interested but the movie was lame and made fall asleep.

King Arthur: I am talking about the recent movie. I know it's not based on any book but rather some historical mumbo jumbo but still the movie sucked. Growing up my favorite book was the once and future king and I'm sad no one has ever made any genuine attempt to turn King Arthur into a respectable film like what Peter Jackson did with the timeless epic LOTR. Too bad film makers cannot appreciate a truly great piece of literature.

Yeah he is much more evil in the book. In the movie he is just a stuipid old man. Plus they kill off the freaking hunter in the movie. That guy was my favorite character.

I would like to add the Disclosure was alot different in that his wife just burned off in the book but stuck around in the movie.

Well, I'm not even sure Crichton read his own book (Jurassic Park) before he wrote The Lost World. Or perhaps he forgot that the protagonist (Malcolm) of the second book was presumed dead at the end of the first one.

The Bourne Identity books are 98% different than the movies.
