work is such a harsh word nowadays, I think of the word work as doing some labor on a railroad. people now cry about their "work" sitting in front of a computer like it's just so tough! i'd rather do a job than sit at home and shakewaggle my dillick.
I'm a percussionist, so that one's pretty easy. Especially compared to work, which consists of trying to teach terrified pre-nursing students to do stoichiometry problems or wearing goggles and presiding over distillation experiments making sure no one blows anything up... of course, occasionally I get lucky and get a gig where working and banging on the drum are actually the same thing.
99% of people only work because they have to. Many of them slowly convince themselves that they actually enjoy work, or that their work is necessary for the greater good. Some do so particularly efficiently. But even most of them would grudgingly admit that they'd prefer to have total control over the minutes and hours and days that make up their lives, instead of being forced to timeshare partial control of their seventy-odd years of life to an employer.
