I wish we could get Acie Law or Crittenton but they will be gone by 26.

The spurs are supposedly interested in Marco Belinelli. Since they've had success drafting quality, late first round picks maybe we should steal him. :p

    Gabe Pruitt seems interesting.

Jared Dudley has been really impressive at workouts according to some. Though he wouldn't really meet any of our most urgent needs.

Zabien Dowdell seems interesting as well but is probably more of a 2nd round guy.

The most important thing is that we actually start doing something with the players we draft instead of just letting guys rot on the bench. We could draft Michael Jordan part two but it wouldn't matter if we never played him or tried to develop him.

I pick Almond from your list but the real diamond in the rough at the 26th spot is going to be Petteri Koponen.

I want Belinelli but if he pulls out, then I say go with Almond.

The player with the most upside late in the first round is Daequan Cook. He's not even on this thread and Draftexpress has the rockets taking him with the 26th pick.

Morris is the solid fit for this team. The others are risky.

From what John Givony from DraftExpress.com has stated in his latest podcast, the Spurs have supposedly given a promise to draft Gabe Pruit at either #28 or their second round pick which is in the low 30's in the second round.

I would think the Rockets would pick their noses before they pick Cook. He has nothing we need, and what he does have there are several others (notably Morris Almond) who have more.

Actually, this poll makes my heart sing -- the two Houston prospects are first and second in the voting. Come on, Sean. This is the guy we need, but I'll be happy with Almond. Read my sig.

Trouble is, I don't think we will have #26 or any other first rounder for that matter.

Thumbs, I like Sean Williams as well, but do you really think he will be there at #26 even with all his character issues. This guy is a beast on the defensive end of the floor and I just don't see to many teams passing him up once they start calling out names in the high teens. I would love to put this guy side by side with Yao on the frontline.

I think there's a 60-40 chance he'll still be there. If I have to gamble, I'd rather take a chance on him instead of Artest. He appears to have learned something from his Ganja episode.

I think Sean Williams could have some serious potential, too. NBAdraft.net compares him to a potential Theo Ratliff, which seems like it could be accurate.

If there was any way to move up to land Crittenton that'd make my day...but I don't see that as being possible.

I just noticed that the poll has Morris Almond from Fresno State rather than Rice. Is he a double threat? :D

Almond (3rd in nation in scoring) would be a good fit for the Rockets at guard.

I personally dont see how you pass up on a solid player like Morris Almond. He has a the height that is rarely seen in today's shooting guards, is an excellent scorer from the 3, and can also drive in for that little "stop and pop" he likes so much... He is a set shooter though... His effectiveness will be questionable in the league......

    7 bigs, 12 perimeter players.

i wonder if they were looking more for a perimeter player or if there are just more available in the late first round.

either way i would assume that they will still draft the best player available if they can't trade the pick for something usefull.

I agree with you. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the Suns took him with the 24th pick. Nash isn't going to last forever. Koponen is a natural PG with very good instincts. I picked Almond because of his shooting and experience. Koponen is a project but he has real upside IMO. I don't think the Rockets will go for him if the trade for James goes down but I feel he could become a starting PG in 3-4 years.
I don't know how to send YouTube highlights. There are some very nice clips of him on it.
