Sweet! I loved Fallout 2. I wonder if they are going to try to make this similar to Elder Scrolls Oblivion but set in the post-apocalyptic world that the first two created. That might be cool. Still...more than a years wait will suck.
I remember playing a Fallout 2 demo and it being a lot of fun. I can't wait for this. In the mean time I should buy the first two and finish em...
FINALLY! I've been following this stuff for a long time. It is interesting to read the boards on this game. Many fans of the original are scared that it won't be turn based like the original game, and are complaining how they don't want it to be like Oblivion set in a post apocalyptic time period. Many are not fans of Oblivion though I can't make too much sense of their hatred of it, and they come off as just out of the loop complainers. I loved character creation, and advancement in the first two fallout games, and I don't see how some of that won't be lost if the game is first person, instead of turn based top down, or similar camera angle. However, I love the work Bethesda has done, and I have a cautious trust in their ability to make a high quality and entertaining game. I'm very excited to see this come out.
Since it's first person and not turned based, then they better make it so that when I aim at a guys arm, I hit a guy's arm, and that his arm falls off. Same goes for shoulder, head, crotch, legs. Though the game is just brilliant overall, I've always loved the combat system where you decide which body part you want to target with the animation living it out. I also want a posse, if they scrap the posse, then they f--ed the game. That said, Morrowind and Oblivion were well made game, though I personally believed a Dungeon Siegesque engine would've being a better "next gen" transfer.
I notice they used Ron Perlman to do the part of narrator and used a 'Ink Spots' tune like in one of the earlier games. It seems like they are keen to maintain continuity, even though this one takes place in and around Washington DC. I'm generally way past the point of caring about games coming out down the line, but two games I am actually anticipating: Fallout 3 Bioshock
Is it definitely going to be first person for sure then? I haven't seen that 1st person was definite. In order to do the aiming and stuff like the other fallout it would have to be turn based. I don't know if it is or isn't going to be. I do know that I loved combat and loved that called shot ability just like you. It was great. I guess I kind of hope that it is turn based so we can still enjoy the same combat and character creation system from the old fallout games. Sometimes it was funny to get that Kharma Sutra trait also in the other game too. I would hate for that to be lost. But I don't think that means the game will suck or won't really be a fallout game if it has changed to real time. Some of the die-hard fallout fans feel differently, but I just want the game to be good, and it seems to have the same feeling from the trailer. And I do trust Bethesda to make a quality game.
i hate it when they dont even show gameplay video, but i guess its still pretty far out but still a little something would be nice
The game is confirmed to be 1st and 3rd person (ala Oblivion) from the latest issue of Game Informer. Some more info from Sallokin at NeoGAF:
Wow. It sounds like they did a good job of still using the same character creation system using the tagged skills, and skill set, while at the same time having it be first person real time shooter. I didn't think that would be possible, and I'm still not exactly sure how it will work in actual gameplay, but it sounds like they got it pretty much down. I've been looking forward to this for a long time.
Sallokin added some info later on that I forgot to add into that post with an edit. There is some other info (or perhaps better detail on certain aspects, like the combat) that he adds in response to questions from others, but instead of quoting those out of context, I'll just provide links to the threads: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=161136&page=11 (his posts start around #516) http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=163612 I'll try to find some scans later on that show off the visuals, although I can't promise anything (I need some better sources for this stuff ). Basically post-apocalyptic Oblivion I guess.
The threads mention a turnbased system for combat. That would be cool as it is what made the first two games so fun to play. But I can't imagine how you could fit a turnbased system into an Oblivion engine that relies heavily on real-time first person action. And if they do use the Oblivion engine, playing from the third person perspective is going to suck big time.
Some scans: Spoiler I couldn't include the following picture (10 image limit, and there are 11 pictures to post), so you'll have to click the following link to see it: http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/robertphi/imgi.jpg
Let's just say this pic made me a little happy and I'm still trying to figure this out " There are NPC's you can hire, but this is not a party based game. ", so does that mean my posse is only gonna be temps, oh well. Everything I've seeing up to this point makes me believe this will be a good game, thank god.
