not that this thread is about artest but... you can't win a championship w/o taking any risks. at this price you have to trade for him. now back to justin reed....
You won't find video on Reed. He's not very flashy. He would have been a good Van Gundy type player in that he's a good worker and gets after it on defense. He plays hard. He has enough size and athletic ability and all the intangibles to probably make it in the league for quite a while if he can find the right situation. He'll never be a superstar, but he can definitely come off the bench and give his team a lift from time to time. He can score, but that's not what is going to keep him in the NBA. He's a legit NBA player though in my opinion.
One last thing to give you an idea about what this kid is capable of doing... http://cbs.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/gamecenter/recap/NCAAB_20040131_SC@MS OXFORD, Miss. -- South Carolina entered its game against Mississippi with one of the top defenses in the Southeastern Conference. That did not stop Justin Reed. Reed scored a career-high 32 points and had 11 rebounds to give Ole Miss a 79-68 victory over the No. 24 Gamecocks. Reed was 10-of-19 from the field and 11-of-11 from the free-throw line for the Rebels (11-7, 3-4 SEC), who are unbeaten in seven home meetings with South Carolina. "Justin Reed made us pay inside, he made us pay at the free-throw line and in general, he just had his way," South Carolina coach Dave Odom said. "He was a key factor in everything they did." The senior forward added two assists, a steal and consistently brought the ball up the floor against full-court pressure from the Gamecocks. "Justin is a great player," Mississippi coach Rod Barnes said. "He has the maturity and ability to handle the press and then he can go post up down low or shoot the jumper. He helps you so much."
In case the Rockets do this deal and get Artest, have a look at the sticky trades thread for my take on it.... If you take the Risk with Artest, you 're expecting he will produce. Taking that as a given, Battier is expendable.....And because we got James and we can always pick up a PG with the MLE, so is Rafer... Rafer+ battier opens a lot of trade doors for us... I think it's very likely Head might replace Span on the above deal to make it more appealing....
Instead of looking at what he "could do", let's see what he did... it ain't pretty. He shot 44% from within 5-10 feet last year... he was bricking from futher out. Seems like a career 40% shooter who shot 37% last year. Seems like he can't hit from inside or outside. Hopefully he improves with us, but I'm not holding my breath.
Do you think he was a poison pill given by the T-Pups, or we asked for him? Anyone know his contract status? DD
Gaines was supposed to be a much better pro, Gaines and Wade used to go at each other all the time back in college...
Oh yeah, he doesn't look like much of a rebounder, either... could we have a bigger Ryan Bowen on our hands?
I've seen him play, he went to Ole Miss and I went there for my first two years of college. He was a PF/C at that time but could make the close college three. He's athletic, and is a good rebounder. He plays PF/SF now. I have also see him play a couple of games in the NBA off the bench, and he played well. In his stats he had a couple games against the nuggets and mavs where he scored 17 and 19 i believe. I like this, we got him for nothing. I think, as mentioned elsewhere, he will be used in a package with someone, hopefully alston, to try and get a PF. If not, he has talent
