What are some things you have discovered that you combine and enjoy as a meal that are really cheap as well as being pretty good? I am looking for some more. Here are 4 of mine: 1. 2. 3. 4. What are some of your cheap eats?
no offense, but that stuff sounds disgusting and terrible for you as well. I can do one or the other maybe...but not both.
1. take 1 slice of bread and put peanut butter and honey on it 2. press it together with 1 more slice of bread 3. eat
I found some vegetable dumplings in a Asian market near me that cost only 2 bucks a bag. I usually load on those when I'm too lazy to cook. Also the 4 dollar roasted chicken in Walmart is a great cheap dish. You can strip all the meats off for sandwich, and boil the bones and skins together with some frozen vegetable and potato for a tasty chicken soup.
Your trying to make something taste good/gourmet by adding a bunch of cheap crap together. Hard task to accomplish.
Lil Pun, I've become friends with someone from Arkansas and lemme tell ya, y'all are good people. I like the way you think. I've always thought food comes out poop in the end (yes, literally) anyway, so who cares? For the most part, I try not to spend a ton on meals. Nowadays I eat healthier, but I could survive on cans of tuna and fat free mayo with some peppers and crackers forever (ok, maybe that's an exaggeration). Can o' tuna is about $0.55 - $0.80/can and all the protein can stuff ya quick. The only downside is the salt content which you can uh... rinse/strain out...
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays I gorge myself on some BW3's. The bill always comes out to be less than $5. Sometimes I'd go for that 555 deal on Pizza Hut when I'm with 2 friends. On other broke days I just eat eggs with bread. Eggs are $2.09 and bread is almost the same I think. Or you can always go back to reliable Ramen.
Broke people and buffets are meant for one another... remember this... cici's and chinese food places are your friend. Later in life, however, you may pay dearly...
I have to disagree with the Chinese food. I love it, but it always leaves you hungry a couple of hours later, resulting in more food purchases. Damn MSG.
I don't know about CiCi's.. but Chinese food can be pretty pricey. There's a Chinese restaurant across the street from U of H where you can get $1 fried rice. I usually get 2 and it's pretty decent. I think some Chinese restaurants can take out their MSG by request. You're warned though, it taste like dried schitt! You'd be thankful they put MSG on those things.
hehe, i suppose that's true. of course you're using it to fry. i swear i am not on top of things tonight...
I used to hit Timmy Chan's and get the large combo fried rice (aka Subgum) for around $6.... it was 2-3 meals. Back in the 80's and 90's you could eat at various downtown Chinese joints for $3.99 (it may have been $2.99, I forget) buffets. I guess they've gone up in price - dunno. I don't even remember the name of the place I used to frequent the most, but I know we used to go to places like Fu Kim, Grand Palace (?), Kim Son, etc.
This isn't really "cooking a meal", but the 99 cent menu at Wendy's (if they still have it) is pretty sweet... chili and baked potato for like $2... go with a large chili and I don't think it's a ton more. Or maybe a chili and fruit bowl.
