I believe Points per possession and Points per Shot are two good stats. To be funny, I divided ppp by pps to get shots per possession and have nicknamed it the Golden State Ratio in honor of GS's reknowned bricking...I mean offensive rebounding prowless. Miami actually lead the league with 0.903 shots per possession. Most teams are around 0.840. These numbers include second and third chance attempts as still being the same possession. I am guessing about 20% of the time down court a team either has a turnover or is sent to the line. As a fan, I would like to see the Golden State Ratio to go up. Personally, I think to do this, the NBA would need to make a foul be a penalty instead of a defensive weapon. Intentional fouls should be called intentional fouls. Grabbing a player should be two shots and the ball. Tackling or undercutting should be a seat. I want a clean game with in which 90% of the possesions have atleast one shot taken. Having games decided by 5 on 5 basketball is the best thing the NBA could do for basketball.
