First of all if you don't like hypothetical situations and outlandish scenario's stop reading here. I just thought that it was going to be a long off season and based on some of the trade rumors out there I thought it would be fun to put together a scenario and let you be the GM. The catch is that while the hypothetical scenario that we start out with is completely crazy...your moves need to be possible and you need to be able to explain them. OK here is the scenario: You are the Rockets GM and you have just traded Juwan Howard, Shane Battier and next years 1st and 2nd round draft picks for Rashard Lewis. You make this years 1st round draft pick but then trade it off to Sac along with VSpan, Bob Sura's contract and Kirk Snyder for Ron Artest. Bonzi Wells agrees not to excersize his player option and stick around for one more year. You have no draft pick but you do have all of the MLE. Your roster as it stands is: Yao Ming TMac Ron Artest Rashard Lewis Bonzi Wells Luther Head Chuck Hayes John Lucas Steve Novak Rafer Alston Jake Tsakalidis Whats next? Do you stand pat? Any more trades? Here is my next move as GM - Trade TMac and Rafer Alston to Minnesota Kevin Garnett. - I split the MLE between Steve Balke and Jason Kapono - Wait for Steve Francis to get his buy out from NY and pick him up for the vets minimum Now my starting roster is: PG - Steve Francis SG - Ron Artest SF - Rashard Lewis PF - Kevin Garnett C - Yao Ming Bench is: PG - Steve Balke G/F - Bonzi Wells PG/SG - Luther Head PG - John Lucas PF/SF - Chuck Hayes PF - Steve Novak SF - Jason Kapono C - Jake Tsakalidis This is all fantasy crap so remember that before you flame me. I think we could go to battle with this group. Certainly I think this group would challenge for a title. OK so there is the scenario and that is what I would do. There has been lots of talk that Minni might trade Garnett and if they do I don't know who else could give them anything as close to equall value for him as we could. I really have no idea what Balke and Kapono will get in free agency but I really have a hard time thinking they will get much more than half the MLE since I don't think either is really viewed as a starter.
First, Sura + Battier = Lewis. Howard makes it a non-starter. My way, Seattle adds a good piece, lesser than Shard but justifyable while lowering salaries. Second, Blake may be a 1/2 MLE guy tho I'm guessing he'll get a 3-yr deal at full MLE and Kopono will get max-MLE deal. I send Howard for mj, if it is still an option. Then after Mo Wms signs elsewhere than Bucks, I send Rafe for Gadzurik. I, too, sign the bought out SF. Now, if Wolves balk at JuHo for mj then I send him to Atl for Claxton and Childress. Claxton would be an overpriced reserve, but better quality than Howard IMHO. And a good change of pace behind SF. All hypothetically speaking, of course, and based on your scenaria.
Resign from my position. you hand me a team where I have 3 swingmen I can't trade (Lewis, Artest, Wells) and one who will never return equal value (T-Mac) and you're doomed. The only way to fix this is if we can somehow deal T-Mac for Bibby. If that's not possible, quit.
ok so i guess we are forgetting about the cap, right? otherwise i would look to shred some salary off of that roster before les has a heart attack. if i'm not worried about the cap then i'd do something like this: i don't think that lewis, artest, and tmac can all work together well. they are all true small fowards. though tmac can play SG none of them can be effective at PF. plus it's not good to have 4 guys who want to score 25 ppg on your team. i would look to move ron since lewis was just signed. 1. ron for haslem & filler - the heat are interested in ron for the talent upgrade. they would be ok at the 4 with walker and mourning getting PT there. 2. split the MLE between webber and atkins 3. send the suns cash for one of thier picks, then trade a future first rounder (due in 3 years since we traded next years away to get lewis) for the other pick. with 2 late first round picks i would take almond and fazekas...both a low reaches but they would surely be available and make great fits here. yao-webber-jake haslem-hayes-fazekas lewis-bonzi-novak tmac-head-almond rafer-atkins-lucas
Couldn't this just be merged into the "Random Rocket Trade Proposals" thread? At least you admit this is never going to happen.
Is it just me, or is there a "trade proposal" thread at the top of the page? Why do we need another thread?
Why would someeone want to flame you this is brilliant stuff. But I say don't stop there let us... Trade Tmac for Duncan, Trade Rafer for lebron trade Jake Tsakalidas for Dwight Howard. Trade Trade John Lucas and Jason Kopono for Gilbert Arenas Trade Luther Head and Chuck Hayes for Elton brand. Now my starting roster is: PG - Gilbert Arenas SG - Lebron James SF - Kevin Garnett PF - Elton Brand C - Yao Ming Bench is: PG - Chris Paul G/F - Bonzi Wells G - Steve Francis PF - Dwight Howard SF - Rashard Lewis SF - Jason Kapono C - Jake Tsakalidis Not that team even JVG could coach. Let's get it done Crash.
JVG could coach this team I agree, but he'd still have a short rotation. Guys stuck in the dog house would include Wells, Francis, Lewis (complained about not starting), Chris Paul ( to short), and Tsakalidis (JVG doesn't like Greek players since dealing with some guy called V-mac!) The rest make up your 7 man rotation. The proof is in the hotdog!
Weak weak weak!! This is such an old and stupid response. Cmon cant you think of anything more intelligent than this? If you dont like a thread leave. Dont respond. Its simple. This board is so full of negative lazy b****y posters now its littered with crap like this. It has just about got to the point to where it isnt even fun to come here anymore.
Only Charlotte and Orlando can sign Mo Wms to more than the MLE, other than a sign and trade, so, if he wants, it is pretty much up to those teams or Milwaukee, right?
You would never pull off most of your trades, there are too many flaws 1) Howard + Battier for Lewis. IF we are getting Shard they are just looked to lower contract (so we would need Sura's contract in there) and they have no use for a PF. 2) If Sura's contract is gone, then no Artest. 3) Why would minni give KG for Tmac + rafer? Its not gonna be worth it. Rafer has 20 mill over 5 years left, Tmac's contract is big and that back isnt getting any better. If KG goes Minny wants to get young in a hurry. Better Trades: Sura, 26 Pick, Snyder, Vspan, Howard, Battier for Bibby, Artest This would deplete us of a bunch of useless junk + Battier and it gives Sac options to trade. If this kind of trade happens expect a 4 way deal or something going down, because Sac would immediately turn around and deal Batman and Jho for any cheap contracts. I really think Sac would do this if offer because: 1) This is MOST IMP, they have to be looking to get young and not contend for a few years if this is case we are good to go. 2) Battier + Howard = 2 smaller 5-6 mill contracts, Bibby = 12 mill contract, it is MUCH harder to move a 12 mill contract than 2 5-6 million. Even Jho was wanted by nets and sure still is. Battier wouldbe good bait to get Sac a Pick + Expiring contract + Young player (possibly) 3) It fills each position that they lose. They get VSpan (FOR BIBBY'S POSTION) (NO ONE KNOWS HOW GOOD HE IS), if he turns out into a decent/good pro trade was great and he is young PG, on a young team they will let him develop. Same goes with Snyder (FOR ARTEST'S POSITION) (another Gerald Wallace (former king) w/out the D). He is young, athletic and big upside. Overall Kings would get from this trade (likely): -3.5 Mill (sura's contract), #26, Snyder, Vspan, -5-6 mill (cliff robinson's contract), net's pick (18ish?), A middle round pick (from some team), -6 mill (expiring contract from some team) If you are rebuilding like I think Kings should that would be a great place to start. Rockets end up with: Bibby/Alston Tmac/luther Artest/Bonzi Hayes/Novak Yao/Deke/Jake Eh + the MLE (for a decent PF hopefully) and then i hope we could get HOPEFULLY Francis and then keep rafer completely on bench + francis would be a good option at 2 sometimes. If we could somehow add rafer to deal (if we could somehow get francis) to kings that would be nice and maybe get Shreef (PAST HIS PRIME, was only 10/8 last year, but another big body wont hurt us) Yea ok tahts it.
Mo does well to get max MLE deal IMO. Supposedly Milw wants to re-sign him for 3 starting at @3mm. I could see Orlando or Houston or Lakes or Det or Cavs targeting Mo Wms.
