Got this over at NBA DRAFT REPORT. BTW, John Thompson, the webmaster of the site will probably have a chat soon to answer any questions. For those of you who have any ideas or comments about the draft or college players, I'm sure he can help you.

Houston is looking at getting some youth in the frontline and an athletic small forward as well. Some scouts have said that they will draft the best player available no matter what the need is. They are looking at players as if they were going to start a new franchise. Some that have sparked an interest is Hanna Mottola, Chris Porter, Kenyon Martin, Jamal Magloire, Mark Madsen, and of course Mihm. They really like Terence Morris.

My take: They will trade up to get Morris. I'll see what other info I can find. [IMG]

    RF34:

That without a doubt, is very accurate reporting. That is exactly what the Rox scouts are saying.

That's good, 2 insiders confirm it. Popeye, have you talked with any of the scouts? Do you know anything else(stuff you can tell us) about the draft?

Very interesting. Has Demarr Johnson's name been mentioned by scouts? I truely believe that Johnson (if he comes out), Richardson, and Morris are the best all around players in this year's draft.

Also, another big guy that's worth looking at is Eton Thomas for Syaricuse.

I know that Chicago will go for Mihm, a point guard, or Richardson. Golden State will most likely go for a point guard or Richardson; however, they may take Morris and trade him to another team for a PG. Dallas already has Finely, the Clipps already have Odom, Vancouver will go after a big man. If Jersey or Washington picks before us, they might take Morris, but other than those teams we have a great shot at landing this future star. Him and Francis is a wonderful combo for the future. With Shandon Mobes and Drew; and Cato, Rodgers, and Thomas + plus the elusive big man we hope to get, our future would be set.

In short, I think Morris could be the best athelete in the draft. Lets go after him.

Guys, lets actually get into the lottery and more importantly, aquire one of the top 3 picks before we start going after college prospects!

I still say those reports are a total waste until at least late next month.

I just hope it's not Porter. I don't think his game is well-rounded enough to help us.

Any future Karl Malones out there?

Yes, but they've all been incarcerated for felonious assault. Applying Karl's rules of conduct to grocery shopping or waiting in line for movie tickets generally results in jail time.

    Let me rephrase:

Any future 25+ ppg, 10 rpg PFs in the draft?

I don't follow college players. Do the Rockets have a chance at a good PF that could put up 25pts-10rbs in a few years? Any future Karl Malone's out there?

Sorry for delay in answering RF34:

The person who I spoke with at Greenway, mentioned each of the players you posted.

Terence Morris, Hanna Mottola, Chris Porter, K. Martin, Magloire, Madsen, Mihm
They also said the Rockets were especially high on both Morris and Mihm. They have specific scouts assignments for each of the guys you mentioned (and of course, several more).

Indeed, some of the guys mentioned above I have serious doubts about. Mottela is a little too slow for me, and he can't rebound to save his life. I need someone more physical.

Although Martin is special, I'm not sure we need another 6'8"-6'9" power forward, after all Thomas looks good at 6'8", and Rodgers looks good at 6'11".

Porter is really special but he has no perimeter game. If he shows any signs that he could develop into a peremter player, we should try to get him. If he can just develope that he would be quite something. If not, we should stay away from him.

I like Maglorie, but if we have a really good pick, we might not want to waste it on him.

Mihm could be something, but if we picked him I think we would get alot more if we just traded him; besides, Cato is our center.

The guy who we would be best off drafting is Morris. He has the complete NBA game. + he's taller than Martin. He would grow to be one of the most versitile and dominating 3's in the league. At 6'9" he might be the best all around player in the country.

We get him, sign a big man, and we sit back and watch a dynasty in the making.

I'm a big UT basketball fan. I'm also a big Rockets fan. Mihm is the ultimate college basketball player. He can score, rebound, and oh yeah block shots. He can dominate on the offensive and defensive end.

Will Mihm be the next Tim Duncan? No one knows. He could be another Olowokandi.

Its okay Popeye, I know you have a busy lifestyle traveling and stuff.

Aruba, I agree with your comments on the players. Although Morris might not be there when we pick, I think Martin would be a solid backup plan.

Smokey-Mimhs would be perfect for a half court offense, but we are no longer that anymore. We are uptempo fast breaking team. Now answer this since you watch him a lot, "Can Mimh run, hustle and without posting up much (shooting jumpers all game) and still still be effective?"

BTW, if Morris and Mimhs both come out this year, I think Mimhs will go number 1. Why? It's not that Mimhs is better, but would u rather pick a 7'0 center or a 6'9 SF when u are rebuilding like chicago? Teams usually go with the safe pick like the clips selecting kandi.

We dont need Chris Mihm. We got CATO!

2 players in the Draft that I like right now.

    Terrence Morris and Kenyon Martin.

Both are great players. Hustle, can run, rebound, score and have great defense.

Francis3-Don't forget Martin is the classic tweener. It doesn't mean he's not going to be successful in the NBA. Look at the NFL's defensive rookie of the year Jevon Kearse, he was a tweener and look how well he did.

I'm sorry, but Kenyon Martin is not a classic tweener. He's a legitimate 4 in the pros. I've been hesistant about singing Martin's praise this year, but I've seen enough of his games lately to say that he has a solid chance to become a very good professional power forward. 6'8" is not exactly an undersized PF. Karl Malone is 6'9". Brian Grant is 6'8". Chris Webber is 6'9". Gary Trent is 6'7". Bo Outlaw is 6'8". Elton Brand is 6'9". Martin is a legit 6'8" and his current weight is closer to 240 lbs right now. He has very long arms and explosive leaping ability to compensate for any supposed height deficiency. Kenyon Martin is going to be very successful at the 4. I'm very confident of that. There you go Francis3, I'm finally giving Martin my seal of approval. Sorry I took so long is his praise, but I had to hold my judgement until i saw more of his play this year.

The ideal PF now is 6'10. Martin is a little shorter than that and I'm not sure if he can guard the SFs. That is what I can consider a tweener. However, Martin has some great hops to compensate that and just becuase you are a tweener does not mean you won't be successful. As stated by your examples, Brand was a tweener also and look how well he's doing. All tweeners seem to be compared to Barkley.

If you guys sit down and watch his game, you will see how much talent this guy has. He hates to lose, does everything he can to win. Martin is exactly what the rockets need. But Terrence Morris has really showed stuff, I have watched him lately and I can see Morris is going to be something in the NBA. Its going to be tough, we just go to see how we are in the draft..

Why if Morris and Martin are gone?

Then what do we do? Well then the rockets should go after the best SF available.
