Matt needs to stay in the mornings. The thing I love about Matt is his honesty. He says things that a lot of us are thinking. He bashes when bashing is justifed, i.e. Garner's nutty lineups and how Lane stayed for so long....but he also gives credit when it is due. He does not sugarcoat or kiss the franchises asses. He's like a listener, but with a mic for 4 hours. I wish he would stay in the mornings. Vandermeer is not knowledable about sports to hold a 4 hour slot. He doesn't deserve a slot now. He talks more about movies and Paris Hilton then sports topics. I might as well kill myself and listen to those freaking idiots on all the FM morning shows. Can we listen to him talk about freaking "Vanderbaby" any more?????? WHO CARES!!!! Do you really think Vandermeer or Andre are going to talk about the "Crap" at Trailor Wheel & Frame? Are they going to continue with "Double Rods," "Markey Mark" and "Uncle Drayton?" I'll give it a chance...or will put my ipod in my dock and never go back.
Chance, What about the perception that Mark and Andre will refuse to say anything controversial about the Texans because of their ties? That's a MAJOR conflict in my opinion. I guess we'll see if they try to steer the show in another direction when the first Texan gets arrested. Mark always seemed uncomfortable ragging on Carr until it was apparent he was gone. I remember a year or so ago I heard Andre doing color for some college football game and came away very impressed. I remember thinking this guy has taken it to another level and is very good now. Whether that translates to him being good on the morning show remains to be seen. Mark, on the other hand, just doesn't do it for me. Nothing personal, he just doesn't have the "it factor" to get me to seek his show out and tune him in. I don't like his style or when he goes into "Ted Baxter" mode with his voice. You say he'll be at all of the Rockets and Astros practices now...was that the case with Granato and Lance or the guys at 790? You tell me because I don't know. And is the golf hour history?
I like mattj but he just says whatever is popular. he and adam are a perfect team, they're a young rich and charlie. except matt is smarter than rich.
The Texans Communist Radio speculation absolutely is something to be concerned about. There is a natural conflict with dual-allegiance. Andre is more apt to be honest than Marc as evidenced in his color work during games. He will unapologetically call out bad play. And Marc has seemed conflicted in the past, hesitant to say the truth. But I think I would fault the Texans for that. They hide from the truth and try to spin everything and Vandy is just plain ol' loyal. The challenge will be to find a balance between being an apologist and a realist and I hope they are up to that challenge. I know I plan to jump on air with them on occasion to keep it real. Granato was always at everything Astros, either working TV or just there. Lance went on occasion. Charlie goes when it is a big game. Matt and Adam went/go to every single thing there is to go to. Marc will be more like Matt and Adam. He wants to be at everything and is a hard worker.
I like Matt and Adam but in this day and age of electronic processing do they have to sound quite so pre-pubescent? Run them through a sound board and take them down a half octave. Buy them a $39 Vader helmet or something. (Vadermeer?)
When it comes time for contract renewal, I hope the Longhorns ditch KILT (because of the Texans). Thank goodness for competition. Sorry.

I think the radio needs more of me, period. If only I could wake up at a decent hour. I miss my morning radio call in ramblings...
If I had a vote, I would put you and Another Brother on for at least an hour every morning. I think that experiment would work...
Chance, you've given me hope for Marc. Maybe if he immerses himself in the local sports scene more, he will come across differently. One thing Marc must do is stay on-topic a lot more than he does now. Certainly a few doses of non-sports stuff is needed, but he takes it to the point of being annoying. I agree Andre Ware is more apt to criticize the Texans. Hopefully he will bring some depth to the other sports. At least one of either Marc or Andre must be capable of heavy lifting when it comes to Rockets and Astros talk. Matt will elevate the afternoon show but I rarely get to listen at that time anyway. I'll miss the Rockets talk and his no holds barred criticism of local teams when justified. Needless to say, I listen to less of the evening show without Matt. Adam is OK without him.
I'm not going to go after this new morning crew cause that's already been beat to death but I'd love to see some Rocket relevant guests more often. I'd lobby for Gene Peterson or Jim Foley to make a weekly visit in the offseason now that Elie is gone. I mean if you're going to have the Texans' beat writer on every other day there should be SOME involvement of guests that are close to the organization. Though I will admit, its not like 610 should be worried about 790. This station is absolutely terrible. Their B-Team consists of a living laugh track and one of the weakest Chronicle writers on a staff of sarcastic know-nothings. That station seems to only exist because of one person. There are the new sports stations that I'll probably listen to more now but I'll always give 610 the first shot.
I can't speak for everyone, but I can promise you we won't be neglecting the Rockets in the afternoons....Those of you who know me, know how much I live and die with that team and it's damn near impossible to forget that I'm supposed to be objective when it comes to that team. I think the work ethic of the people at our station will shine through on the air. It obviously is not the ideal time to be shaking things up considering this is the deader period on the sports calendar. That being said we'll earn your ears, and I am always open to suggestions for ways to improve the content of the show....as for the Vader helmet...interesting theory, and I'd like to subscribe to your news letter. Hey my voice is my voice, I don't run from it....I'm younger than the average host....and???? So I turn 30 in two weeks...and??? Hell I know it's a miracle that I've been on the air this long, but I respect and welcome all criticism and praise from all the good people of CLutch City, and by all means don't be a stranger...My liver is always open for beer...
