A black guy I play poker with sometimes was sitting right behind this altercation. He said the shooter apologized many times for bumping into the deceased and that the deceased wouldn't let it go. He said at the time that he felt bad for the guy who shot the other one.
I like your 10 reference, Smokey. I am waiting on the 11th sequel also. Did you really need to say what the skin color your poker mate was, really? Not relevant, I don't think, man. I guess I am in here before it goes to the D&D.
I'd say it's somewhat relevant...........I mean the whole reason this is an issue in the first place is that the shooter was white and the "victim" was black. If you ask me, it's the guy did the right thing. Poor dumb b*stard picked on the wrong guy that all.
I'm glad the right thing was done in this case. At least from the facts that we have. The deceased had a history of complaints by other bus passengers. I wonder if the shooter can sue Metro. Fortunately he had a gun and the DA's office didn't pander to anyone.
As well as a criminal record for drugs and assault. I don't care if he's black, white, or purple. This sounds like textbook self defense to me.
He's not the one that brought up race ... that was Quannel X or whatever he is brought up. Completely relevant to what was in that article. Quit trying to act like race doesn't matter at all when everyone knows it does especially when you are talking about opinions on whether something is racist or not. In the thread about the Mexican flag being hung above the upside down American flag, you stated something like "I am Mexican and that pisses me off" No difference between what you said and what RM95 said. Neither was wrong.
Sue Metro for what? I don't think that every negative thing that happens in life needs to have a lawsuit attached.
I think what RM95 is saying is a black person on the bus sympathized with the shooter. So when Quannel X is talking about the outraged black community, it doesn't include RM95's black poker friend.
yeah, in a thread involving Quannel X i'm certain skin color is completely irrelevant all the way through!
If Metro had knowledge that the deceased caused problems on the bus in the past and didn't take action to stop him and protect other passengers (like ban him), I'm sure there is some cause of action. I don't know emotional distress...he had to kill someone.
so you have a problem with him specifying that it was a black person, do you care that he specified that it was a man?
I don't think there was anything racist about this scenario at all and the guy sounds like he was acting in self defense to me. However, I have to wonder if the situation was reversed where it was a clean-record black guy that shot and killed a large white aggressor with a criminal record, would we be as sympathetic toward him. I'm not one that cries racism very often at all, but something tells me that situation would not be as favorable for the black guy and self defense. I would seriously hope it would though because I whole-heartedly believe in self defense, but I'm not convinced in my mind it would be seen the same way.
I was wondering the same thing How do you BAN someone from getting on Metro . . . Will they hang his picture on the front of the doors? I wonder if someone will talk about having guns on busses now . . . If not. . . It may look like a Scene out of Predator II Rocket River
I think it would be damn near impossible. If they started checking ID's, it would take a million years to let everyone on.
Not saying they can. What measures do they take for passengers safety? If this guy had a history then Metro needs to answer some questions. Obviously Metro can't screen every passenger. I think it isn't much to ask for people to feel safe on the bus. Is it enter at your own risk?
Is this opposed to being there the whole time of the altercation? Did he get up, leave and come back a couple times during the altercation? That wouldn't make a reliable witness.
I never felt in danger when I used to ride the bus downtown for work. It's an isolated incident. This doesn't happen once a week.
