I don't know what it is with the fetish of getting players that's played for our coaches. Is it because we saw how much JVG tried it with his ex NY'ers and failed miserably?

Artest and Bonzi are huge head cases. We've experienced one with Bonzi and I don't think this city can take on any more luggage from Artest. I'm all for letting Bonzi go. He wants to get paid and he's not gonna get it from us. Either he fulfills his second year contract with us for pocket change or he's out. No need in keeping a disgruntled player for another year.

The only good thing that we could get from coach Adelman's old team is Bibby. I highly doubt that's going to happen. We're trying to build a new team here not rebuild a new sac town.

I hope Adelman isn't going to bring one of his old players as an assistant coach either.

    good post

    certainly agreed on Artest.

Have people forgotten what sort of a cancer this guy is?

perhaps someone needs to direct those who want him to the youtube of him attacking fans in the stands.

Hey besides those 2 who else wouldnt you want? There were alot of good players on those Sac teams. A hell of alot better talent pool than the Gundy Knicks had.

What good is he to the team if he is in jail or suspended? You know its going to happen eventually. Do you want our success to depend on players like that?

Alderman's a player's coach who will certainly have a winning team. Those two factors can definitely/possibly alter a player's performance or attitude. The reason i contradicted myself with possibly is because Artest is a proven nutcase, but i think he could change here. Bonzi on the other hand, hasn't had problems i know of except with JVG, which could be understandable.

I have two words for you: Mad Max.

Charged into the stands to attack a fan? check!
Showed up late to a game because he was in jail for brandishing a gun at someone in a Luby's parking lot? check!
Clocked Carl Herrera with a dumbbell? check!

And despite all of that, we couldn't have won our first championship without him. I'll be glad to take on Artest if the price is right.

we're already depending on 2 all-star players that are injury prone. so why not gamble some more?

It's not the age of the player...it's the NBA mileage. If Adelman can get Corliss Willliamson to sign a vet minimum contract similar to Mutombo's it would increase the teams' current talent level significantly. Williamson by my recollection is a good locker room guy...something the Rox would need if there are any legs to re-visiting Mike James for Juwan.

Low mileage, low cost older players have a place on any championship calber team. Barry, Finley, Stackhouse, Kurt Thomas and Horry to name a few. The only caveat is they need to do more in transition than Jim Jackson who (unlike David Wesley and Jon Barry) felt the need to camp at the 3 point line.

great post. i agree with it all.

though jon barry and david wesley weren't that great on the break either. jon pulled up for 3 and wesley never finished a fastbreak without a miss or a block.

corliss would be a nice pickup at PF if we move juwon.

Mo Williams is a good character guy, good defender, POINT GUARD, and scorer for Milwaukee. We don't need Bibby if we can get this guy and Rashard via a sign and trade.

I agree with you. We need and want players who can grow with Yao Ming and make great team chemistry. Artest seems like the only one who has possibly five years of top game left in him. If Artest came to the Rockets Yao would hav ea calming effect upon him and if Mario is the assistant coach he will keep him in check.:p

I would not mind seeing Ron Artest and Bonzi Wells coming off the bench. They'd never settle for it, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't love to see it.

Seriously, I think putting up with the headcases is worth it for a title. If we had a duo like that on the floor to give T-Mac, Yao, and Battier/Lewis some rest, there'd be no stopping us (provided they're both in shape). That goes double if we can get them both on the cheap. A lineup with Mac, Yao, Franchise, Ron Ron, Bonzi, Battier/Lewis, Mike James, Skip, and DaDakota could take us to the Finals. I know that more than one person here doesn't like Skip, but who here would argue against having him come off the bench?

The above is the absolute best case scenario for the Rockets this offseason. Unless KG decides to come to Houston to play at Veterans Minimum, nabbing Artest/Bonzi/James/Franchise would be as good as it gets.

Mo puts up better stats than Barbosa or Ellis. He's not quite up there with Parker but he's just a hair below. I'd get him. Sure.

Personally, I don't like the coach of a new team bringing in his former players.
I just dont like idea of copying the playing style of another team. The Rox is unique as always been. We have our 2 superstars in Yao & Tmac. Let them grow together and continue to develop. I still believe in them of turing into a fanastic duo some day. Sure, they didn't do well in this off season. Treat it as un unfortunate experience and hopefully they will never forget and learn from it. Besides, we have a new coach. From what I read in this forum, Coach Adleman is said to be creative. Let him create some game plans that will work wonders for us. I rather have him/Morey to target on some young talents than using all our resources of bringing the coach's former players.
