well put. its stupid that people can blame a guy who helped the rockets actually become relevant again.

i dont know why its so hard for people to accept that jvg did the best job possible given the current situation.

but for whatever reason its easier to blame the coach and not the organizations front office for having crappy drafts, stupid trades, garbage contracts and an overall lack of getting talent on this team.

tell me please what went down?....JVG came and helped CD and the management to pick the right players? were those players on the roster with JVG? usually you have to go through a transition after many of the greats step down or retire...it took some time, JVG got the players he needed and he could not bring us to the next level...

please tell me, one team that has a consistent good draft year?...it's not possible, sometimes you have to take risks and mistakes will happen...was the Francis pick a mistake? how about Yao, or brining Mac to this team? how about the picks that contribute but aren't allstars?

chuck hayes and j. howard as your PFs...thats the team jvg really wanted? come on dude, you know thats not true.

rafer with no legit backup? is that really what jvg wanted? you know thats not true as well. He even made several comments about how rafer was in a bad position b/c there was no viable backup for him.

saying this was the team he wanted is just wrong and you know that.

its not even about consistancy..although they have been consistancy bad. you cant ignore the fact that their drafts have been a complete waste barring a few picks over the last 8 years.

Maybe we dont expect consistantly good...but i sure in hell dont want consistantly bad, which we have been getting over the past few years and well before jvg got here.

    maybe you need a picture

the bottom line is who is responsible for rox lack of talents? cd or jvg?

due to the cap situations, you basically just have two ways to add more talents:

    develop young players
integrate players with problems: sheed, baron davis,...

    Rockets: Spanoulis Gets His Offer
    By Bill Ingram
    for ***************
    Jun 1, 2007, 09:00

Vassilis Spanoulis is somewhat of a cult hero in Houston. He might be more than that, but to become much more would require significant playing time for the young man from Greece. That's not something he got last season, and his doubts about next season sent him to Greece to politic for a job that would involve more playing time - even if it would mean less money.

On Thursday Spanoulis got his offer, with Panathinaikos tendering him an offer to return to Greece next season. The big question now is whether or not the Houston Rockets will release him to play in Greece.

The answer is no. Rockets General Manager told Basketball News last week that he will not allow Spanoulis to return to Greece, and more importantly he revealed that he has every intention of using his young point guard next season. There has been plenty of speculation that former Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy's unwillingness to play or develop Spanoulis had something to do with his demise.

This won't be the case with Rick Adelman. As Doug Christie pointed out in a recent interview with Basketball News, one of Adelman's strengths lies in helping foreign players adapt to the NBA game. The thinking is that Adelman will help develop Spanoulis into the point guard the Rockets so desperately need.

"I think Coach Adelman will be fantastic for Spanoulis," said Christie in an exclusive interview. "That's one of the things he does, he teaches basketball as far as passing and cutting and getting open and all of those things. The onus is then placed on the players and how bad they want it. Once he shows you what to do the work is on your own time, when you can really fine tune things and get it how it goes. In practice you're going over it again and again - you're learning basketball and understanding what it is. Then you have to put that out there on the basketball court. So I think Rick will be a fantastic coach for him, helping him understand the professional game, understanding where the NBA is now as far as scoring and angles and different things. You're going to get that tutelage from Rick."

The news that the Rockets don't intend to release him will likely come as bad news to Spanoulis, but once he has a chance to work with Rick Adelman and log some real minutes on the NBA hardwoods he'll look back and realize that the Rockets' front office really did have his best interests at heart.

Regarding his contract, it's naieve to think that's really a problem if he really wanted to go home. You can't keep an unmotivated athelete around, and it just would have cost V-Span some money. Even now if he does suck here he'll be welcomed back in Greece with a fat contract. If V-Span wanted to go he'd be gone.

And the JVG quote was on TV (video somewhere), not Feigen's article who decided that the laughter at JVG's remark may have made the coach look bad.
Many here saw the video, you're misinformed by Feigen's perpetual butt-kissing.

    Hi Texanskan,

any news on drafting from your breakfast meeting? What are the Rockets looking at: 2 or 4?

    Thank you!

really nothing, they could not even tell us that much if we were able to ask. I'm sure Rick and Morey will look to find an athletic-good shooting 4. Not sure if they will get that in the draft but one way or the other they will find an upgrade. Not sure where that leaves Chuck Hayes Not sure on the Deke vs Big Jake situation as far as a backup center either. Sorry I asked the question and follow up on Span so I could add info to this thread.

Your friend is correct, his exact words were '' I HAVE A CONTRACT WITH THE ROCKETS ,THEREFORE THE OPINION OF THE TEAM IS OF GREAT IMPORTANCE TO ME ''.
Also earlier today in some greek websites ( like www.in.gr) he was mentioned saying about panathinaikos offer to him '' They mustn't forget i have a contract with the Rockets ''.
I think the fact that he talks all the time about his first year with the Rockets shows that his mind is set on making it in the NBA. Ofcourse he doesn't make it 100 % clear , he says he will announce his decision in a few days, hopefully Rick Adelman's phone call removed any doubt he had .
By the way i wanna make clear that if Spanoulis didn't have the potential to make it in the NBA i definitely wouldn't support him greek or no greek, to me Spanoulis,Diamantidis,Papaloukas and Zisis are all great players that can make it in the NBA, other hundreeds of greek basketball players can't, it's as simple as that. Now what spanoulis needs to do is stop thinking so much train as hard as he can for the eurobasket in Spain this summer and next season grab every opportunity Adelman gives him to show what he's got.

geez...when spanoulis played he was just ok...why the over blown discussion of him. he is not the key to us winning next year. its our health, tmac, yao and finding better players at power forward and eliminating some guys. the spanoulis discussion is over done for an average player.

i still dont get it...most of the people here have never seen spanoulis play except for in the olympics, the pre season and for the 10 games he was in the rotation. it just seems over done. good players rise up. not all rookies are ready to play their first year. same with novak. lets just wait and see
