i mean he played for a second-tier team in greece until 2005 when he joined Panathinaikos and joined the Greek NT as well...

People mainly started hearing about him between 2004-2006 and in 2006 he joined the Rockets... Sarunas had like 5 Euroleague seasons under his belt. Span had one...

thats what I mean...Maybe i didnt phrase it very well

So did you take it to mean he would have had Span as the main backup to Rafer rather than JL3?

Any inkling that he saw him as a starter?

I cannot stand Rafer - every time he pulls his And1 crap and shoots a crazy ass 3 I want to burn down the TC. To me he's a backup PG starting on a playoff team.

That said, if we add a FA PG without getting rid of Rafer, my guess is that Rafer would drop to the primary backup, shafting VSpan on minutes again - at least as a PG.

Wouldn't he then have to hope that either 1.) we don't bring in a FA PG worth a damn, 2.) we trade Rafer, or 3.) Adelman gets tired of Rafer's hair-pulling antics and benches him?

The things that worry me about the rest of CD's comments are that he in any way thinks we compare to the 93 Rockets, "match up well" with the Spurs, and are a FA and a draftee away.

1.) The core of the 93-95 team was better than the core of this one. We had a good PG, a sound PF, a crazy but deadly SG, - I could go on. This team has a gaping hole at PF, is a mess at PG, has no defined SG, and no bench to speak of. About the only similarity they share is a C about to enter his prime, and being fully loaded at SF. Comparing your current roster to one from almost 15 years ago is ludicrous.

2.) We went 3-2 against the Spurs last season, right? And that meant what against the Jazz? Matching up favorably against one team means jack ****. You have to get through three teams just to GET to the Finals! A stupid means of predicting whether you have championship capability.

3.) I agree with CD if the FA we get is a clutch SG with a deadeye shot, a huge heart, a nasty streak, and with ice water running through his veins. Who is out there that fits the bill? That we can get? At the position we are drafting, does anyone see a Cassell? We would have to get EXTREMELY lucky to find anyone near The Alien's caliber where we are in this draft. Lightning in a bottle.

We need a smart STARTING PG who is not turnover prone and a STARTING PF who knows how to rebound and can own the area under the basket. Where oh where, CD, do you see two guys to fill those roles coming from the FA market & the draft, given our $$$ constraints and our draft position???

Les & CD need to take a step back and let Adelman & Morey see if they can do their thing and pull us out of mediocrity.

I thought it was one of the Chron bloggers who said that Les wanted the Rockets to be more like Phoenix.

You sound so sure of yourself. Believe me, not all people of the same ethnicity have to act the same way.

who cares if he's greek (other than the greeks)...as long as he plays well it doesnt matter. i understand people want to cheer for their own kind but being a blind race follower isnt flattering.

Went to this thing last year with JVG and the Rockets people let us do q and a with JVG for well over an hour today we were able to ask 4 questions before they rushed him off, #1 my Span question and #2 my follow up Span question. My friend BigM's question about Chuck Hayes (he would of asked a different question if he thought he was only getting one) and another guy who told me he was on clutchfans asked about the MLE.

Other info was given by CD when he just got up there and spoke about the team etc. etc.

Span will play, It's my personal belief that Span will share minutes for Rafer and JL3 will be the third PG. Head/Snyder and maybe someone they bring in will all get a look for min's at the backup two and for extended min if the Rockets go small ie. Mac at 3.

CD, is not stupid he did not say we are better than the Spurs he simply pointed out the obvious (they are the best team in basketball) that we beat them two times and next year we will match up better.

CD said Rick needs to find a 4 that can shoot and without saying it you could tell he thinks Span is the help needed at point.

    Does that answer it?

Wish I could be specific but we agree not to tell specific details, I am just sharing the obvious and things that are not gonna be a problem if told so I hope this is good enough.

Oh stop it! Just because you happen to believe the Rockets' company line word for word doesn't mean that I have to buy the crap they're shovelling. I don't need to believe what JVG says or doesn't say because I can see for myself exactly what went down in the 4 years he was here. I can see exactly what has been going on with this franchise for the past dozen years that has led to the current situation and the last I looked JVG was only around for the past 4. I find it a little dishonest how everyone wants to point fingers at JVG for the 3 first round losses as justification for getting rid of him like that is some sort of indictment against his coaching ability. That's the feeble ass excuse that Les, CD and the rest of the stooges over at Rockets Central want us to buy so they can avoid responsibility for what has been going down since the championship years. And judging from the volume of posts here parrotting this crap, they've found a lot of takers.

Am I the one of the few folks here who remembers what life around here was like before JVG? The terrible SF3 teams? Those 4 years in the NBA lotto? Anyone remember Moochie Norris? Mo Taylor? Dan Langhi? Glen Rice? Brent Price? Antoine Carr? Reece Gaines? How about blowing our entire 2001 draft for Eddie Griffin? Or having to give up our 2003 lottery pick to Memphis? Yeah, things were soooooo much better back then BEFORE JVG - hell, all he could manage to do was get this team into the playoffs 3 of the 4 years he was here. We are so much better off without him as head coach.
