Been away for a while, but I felt this is pertinent to what Clutch said about the Bulls: You can't forget that Reinsdorf, who owns the Bulls and the White Sox, is the guy who pulled the strings on the White Flag Trade. The White Sox were 1.5 games behind the Tribe when they traded Danny Darwin, Wilson Alvarez, Roberto Hernandez, and Harold Baines for minor leaguers. I was at the game when they announced the Harold Baines trade (which actually came one day before the White Flag fiasco)... weird. I looked at my friend sitting next to me and said, "I wonder why Harold isn't starting tonight", as he was a fixture at DH then. The White Sox purposely delayed announcing the trade until the third or fourth inning of the game. Only then was the trade announced, and only over the radio coverage of the game at that. The place emptied out and it's never been the same since. Saddest thing I ever saw. I digress - but Reinsdorf no doubt would have Krause do that deal. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Reinsdorf had Krause go further - I'm sure Hawkins would be gone too.
Just wondering if there is any possibility of nabbing a hot free agent this summer (or in the near future). What free agents will be available, and can we afford anything? [This message has been edited by Plato (edited January 13, 2000).]
Hey Clutch are you going to keep updating this page? I'd love to have something positive to discuss with my work studies who are big Dallas Mavs fans. We must have some competition besides who hates Karla Malone more. ------------------ The truth is out there... on the NET.
I didn't know that level of hatred was possible by a mere mortal. BTW love the Keg Notes. ------------------ There can be only one...
If all we've got left is the lottery, then I guess you'd have to consider GS and Chicago to be "must lose" games.
Listening to 610 this AM and they discussed the possibility of getting up to 3 1st round picks: our lottery protected pick and Detroit (I believe) and Orlando's picks. Of course, we could end up with only our 1st round pick. Here's my comparison of some of the nucleus and their potential in a few years: Francis - star player (Drexler's '95). Mobley - Emotional leader and decent numbers (Maxwell '94). Anderson - Junkyard dog (Elie '95). Cato - Good defense, low double-doubles (Thorpe '94). Drew - 3pt gunner a la Kerr/Paxson I think we have 5 players on this team that will be here long term, which is good. It will help towards building unity, chemistry and familiarity that you can't get through quick-fix trades or free agent signings. Assuming they live up to their potential, what that lineup would be missing is a dominant starting power forward in the mold of Karl Malone (20pts-10rb) and some solid bench contributors besides Drew. I don't think a team wins a championship without a dominant center, power forward or Michael Jordon. Obviously, a dominant center would be nice, but we have Cato and great centers are a rare breed. So, should we draft the best PF available, sign a free agent PF in the next year fews, or trade our 1st round pick(s) for the best PF we can get? Or am I way off, and you don't need any dominance in the front court to win a championship? The question really is, what are the Rockets hoping to mold this team into? What players do they need for what system they want to run? Addendum: I forgot about Carlos Rogers. He would be an excellent 3-4 off the bench capabable of double-doubles in spot starts. I'd prefer better defense, but that makes 4 starters and 2 bench players on the team today that should be here in our next championship run. Rogers is older and could be one of our key "veterans" in the years to come. I think our young players and draft picks can look up to him for leadership and as a role model in the same calming way as Olajuwan. thanks tb-cain for the reminder about the 3... i've wondered aloud before whether or not we'll get detroit's pick now or later. it seems that if they think for a moment they're going to lose hill, they'd be foolish to not give us their pick this year. the case of haves and have nots works the other way too w/ orlando. does orlando give us this year's pick if they don't think that they'll be able to entice duncan: probably, although it depends on the depth of the draft. remember: they're doing well right now, but I also remember the nets being in the playoffs 2 years ago. more importantly: does orlando think they'll get duncan? probably. a short flight to home from a humid town that can offer him ample change has alot to do with it, as much as doc robinson, who by the way, has a smoother complexion than *ugghhh* greg popazit. so the pick scenario: we'll probably get our own pick, as well as detroit's. we'll get pick 27 or higher from orlando in the next 2 years
