This means we have gone to these games in huge numbers since this ballpark was built, thanks to Les Alexander and the threat of a new regional sports network Drayton has gotten a fat paycheck from FSN to broadcast his games and what has he done? First he lowers payroll (from 1999-2000) knowing no matter how bad the product is he will sellout most games in 2000. Oh yeah the product was real bad. Then after a few years of attendence going down due to his crazy price increases in tickets and concessions he makes the Clemens/Pettitte splash has his best two year run and then after clearly watching an average team in 2006 Drayton in typical Drayton fashion takes 1 step forward (Lee) and two steps back (not resigning Pettitte and then letting stupid GM give up top pitching prospect to patch a hole)

Astros are not proactive as far as making trades, we never develop players young enough to ship them off when they have value we just give up minor league prospects for players at the trade deadline that the owner at the end of the day does not want to pay market value to.

I am tired of being insulted, changes need to happen and I want to see a game plan that does not involve lineups that have multiple guys that hit under 220.

I also don't want this "root for the good guys" crap. How about rooting for a world series champion.

You still haven't told me how you are going to DEMAND RESULTS and affect change in the Houston Astros organization.

Because, as everyone knows, all one has to do is spend all kinds of jack on free agents while bringing all your twenty-year-olds to the majors and you'll win a World Series.

(I think the slogan is dumb, too. I think the whole of Astros marketing is mindless drivel and has been for years, with the notable exception of "Houston's Brand of Baseball".)

Of course Drayton's attendance numbers need to drop off to the point where in his mind things are so bad that changes must happen.

Is that going to make Lance Berkman or Morgan Ensberg hit the ball?

At least we're not the Cubs. They spend and spend and still have nothing to show for it. They dropped $136 million on Soriano and he's done nothing. Prior and Wood are on the DL as usual.

We've had a great run every year, but damnit the hitting is atrocious! Chris Sampson has pitched well and Oswalt is a horse. Even Jennings had a good outing yesterday. If for once we could learn how to hit, we'd be a lot better off. I think the bottom of the order with Everett/Ausmus needs to broken up soon. One of them can stay, but to have both of those guys providing next to nothing is detrimental to the lineup.

Also, I'm ready to give up on Ensberg. Even that year he dropped 38 homers, his production really dropped off during the 2nd half of the season. The leadoff spot is also sorely lacking, and really needs help. This is where we need Burke or Biggio to step up big time. Burke is struggling against AAA pitching though and Biggio is flailing at outside pitches in worse than ever.

I guess for the time being, the best order is as follows:

    2B. Biggio
    SS. Loretta
    1B. Berkman
    LF. Lee
    CF. Pence
    3B. Lamb
    RF. Scott/Lane/Burke
    C. Ausmus

What insults me is the attitude of we are just gonna kept grinding it out. We are gonna stay positive. I don't think changes are what we need.

These are all things Purp and Uncle Drayton have been talking about and if they belive it and these things work out than I guess I'm wrong but I don't see how that direction will help this team win.

I am gonna see how these next 8-9 months play out and if I don't see good direction and a plan than I will just watch games on tv and not buy and hats, t-shirts or tickets but of course I will still watch my team.

I really envy you, I have to go to Corpus and watch the Hooks game to not feel emotional and just enjoy it.

It's not the same, I would chill out if we won a world series.

What exactly should they say? You can't make dramatic changes to your team in May. Regardless of whether we feel they had a good offseason or not, they thought they made solid key additions (Jennings, Lee). Beyond that, I'm not sure what you'd expect them to do *now*. It's not like teams are having firesales or making major midseason trades all the time.

no you wouldn't. i thought i would be satisfied when the rockets won a championship...i wasn't. i wanted so much for them to win again in 1995. it's never enough.

and don't get me wrong...there is nothing more in sports i want than for the houston astros to win a world series. tons of history for me there...i will cry like a baby when that happens, no doubt. but i'm not gonna pretend i'll give up on the product until then. or that i'll boycott them in some way. i know for a fact that i'm not gonna do that. so it's just making noise.

I do not like them, Sam I Am!

(Sorry, the first thing that hit me when your first two sentences almost had that rhythm to them.)

We suck. I told all my friends this. I didn't even start following the team until 2 weeks after the Rockets were eliminated. I didn't like the offseason moves. Purpura has changed his managing style from his first season here. Garner was never a good manager, never will be even if you give him the best players. I put down money that we'd finish 2nd to last in the division, and have our worst season since 2000. I'm about to strike it rich. We have no chance. Lee isn't worth the money. There is no reason for him to get paid more than Berkman and Oswalt. Jennings was a bad trade. Should've kept Hirsh. If McLane fires Garner and Purpura, then I'd have faith in this team heading into next season.

So Lee isn't worth the money...even though he's one of a few players actually performing and producing runs.

How exactly was the Jennings trade bad...pitching is NOT the problem on this team. Hirsch would not have had any impact on this team's ability to score runs.
