Too many intertwined plot lines, and some with weak motives. Like what is Norrington trying to accomplish exactly? Eliminate all pirates ever?

Most in the forum are right tho, the movie is visually good.

The way I understand it, Norrington wants to control Davy Jones to further his thirst for power.

but understand, I havent seen the movie yet...its taken from what was hinted at previously and what little I have heard about the new one.

I liked the movie, better than the second but still not as good as the first. It had most of the intelligence of the first one, but was perhaps a little too grim. I felt a bit frazzled walking out of the movie. The second one had done a better job capturing the fun adventure aspect of the original, but was a bit too hokey. and didn't begin to match with the complexity of the first one. Except for the wedding scene, this one left most of the hokiness behind and it was pretty smart. When they made the second one, it seems like they had no idea where they were going to go with the 3rd one.

I was rather surprised at how grim this one was. The violence was more explicit and somehow less forgiving.

My wife was unhappy with the ending, because it kinda sucks that a couple could only see each other once a decade. She appreciated hearing about the deleted scene and would have much preferred it if it had remained. It would make more sense with it in, because it makes Davie Jones' motivations more clear.

I did love the job they did with the settings and the sets and all. They did a great job with the griminess and realism of the boats, ports, etc. And, there was some funny stuff too.

They do seem like fairly different styles of movies, but both #2 and #3 were filmed at the same time. So presumably, the whole script for both of them was written before filming ever started.

It may be slightly better than the 2nd one...but the 1st one ruled. I agree the 3rd one was a bit boring...sigh.

norrington an obsessive business man and ridding the pirates is good for business. near the end he keeps on repeating... "it's good business" over and over again.

    1. I feel like about 30-40 minutes of scenes should have been cut out. A lot of the useless jokes and monkey shots really killed my mood to watch pirates ;) Not that i didn't like the funny parts, they just shouldn't appear that much during a scene thats supposed to be tense.

    2. I can't help but notice the flaws during the transitions of the scenes... Say when you swim to a beach or the ship, and you can't see any water on them, you see them dressed in brand new outfits...

    3. I thought it was very confusing... I don't understand how people died just came back like that... Also, the fighting/asking for marriage sequence was way too unreal for me, i mean the fighting scene weren't the best...

But overall it was a good movie, better than 2 imo. #1 is still the best as always.

It felt like all the action in 3 was rehashed from the other 2 movies. There also wasn't as much action. 3 hours is too long a movie for this kind of movie...

I thought it was okay, but the worst of the trilogy.

Because he surfaced to the living world and he and his crew received their forms as punishment. He is allowed to surface to the living world every 10 years for one day, but on his one day, Calypso wasn't there to see him.

So in pirate fashion they double crossed each other without knowing it...

I liked it the most out of the 3. The 2nd one was the one I felt was weak. This movie kept you entertained the whole way through and had a very good flow to everything. It never felt like a 3 hour movie.

Thx, i must have been asleep at that point.

I guess I would have thought that after the company screwed him (in the first movie) that Norrington would have had less loyalty to "the business". I know he went back to the company in the second movie, but I thought he would have his own intentions, not those inline with the company.

I think some of ya'll are confusing Norrington with Lord Beckett...Norrington was Swan's ex from the first movie...his motivations were essentially to fulfill his duty to mother and country...but by the third movie his intentions and which side he's truly on were a lot less clear. Lord Beckett is the power hungry ass of a commander that wants to kill all pirates out of "good business."

Also, as for Davy Jones and his crew looking like fish...my understanding, which is explained in the third, is
that once you are bound to the Dutchmen you have a duty of escorting the dead to the afterlife. Davy Jones shirked that duty and as a result became what he was..remember Sparrow contemplating killing Jones so he could sail the seas forever but then realizing if he didn't fulfill the duties of the Dutchmen he would turn squid. I'm pretty sure the Dutchmen can go back and forth between both worlds he just can't go on land but once every 10 years...which is why in the movie when they meet to discuss terms on the sandbar he's standing in a bucket of water.

I saw it Thursday night...Long, but ok...The first one was definitley the best, IMHO...A hell of a lot better than the second one and to me, it was trying to be too funny, but most of the jokes worked...

I didn't stay until the end so I missed the last part, but that makes it a lot clearer...

For me I thought it was far to long. I do not mind long movies but this one really felt like it did not have to be this long. I thought the second movie was by far the best. To me it felt like a nice rollar coaster ride. What a true summer movie should be like. I did not feel like this one flowed very well. The first 2 hours of the movie was really boring. The last 45 minutes is when it really picked up.

I also thought all the scenes with Johnny Depp halucinating were really weird.
