When I boot-up, both DVD drives are okay, but after a while the drive letters are gone.

    Any ideas?

jumper cable? possible the ribbon is all you need to change. It maybe a simple fix but it took me like hours to figure an issue in which it was the jumper cables one time and pissed me off how much time i wasted.

Then again, u maybe a hardware genius and I insulted u with the simple fixes i just stated :p

No, I'm no hardware genius but it seems like software/system since they are always there when the system boots and then become unavailable, and there are 2 drives not just one. Thanks though. :)

if you used another cd burner before Nero or have another one currently installed, that will cause the issue.

if you google this, you'll see this is actually a normal problem with Nero.

A missing optical drive is a symptom of having a virus in your memory.

    god I hope so

if not, its scary how ppl who dont know jack about computers can pretend like their advice is worth listening to.

to the original question....it is more than likley a windows issue (big surprise there right?)....the drivers that windows uses are conflicting with the optical drive infrastructure that (probably) Nero is tryin to use.

I would try complete uninstall of Nero and see if they stick around without it being there...if they do then there is your problem
