Apologies if this question has been discussed elsewhere, but JVG bought the tickets for the Red Rowdies, right? Now that he is gone, will someone else pick up the slack? Or will the Red Rowdies be gone with JVG?

Just from watching video of the games, it seems like the Rowdies really helped to bring some excitement to the games, which helped to win games and which helps the enthusiasm even of people who are not in the arena.

Seems to me like the organization would be smart to continue the program. Does anyone have any info?

They asked Rick Adelman this on sports radio 610. He asked if they were just regular fans. The guys said no these are the die hards you will love them. His response was I have no problem paying for tickets then.

How long will the coach and the players pay for free tickets for fans? This is something that Les Alexander should be paying for if it becomes a tradition. It's no different than cheerleaders.

Unless of course the Cheerleaders do it for free. But still, Les Should be paying for the seats and should not allow it to come out of the paychecks of Adelman or T-Mac.

I agree, but any little bit of excitement about the Rocks is good now. Take what you can.

Do you really think JVG paid full price for those tickets if at all. The red rowdies is a marketing program and I'm sure the rockets paid for them one way or the other.

^ Since they came from Van Gundy's paycheck the Rox organization did pay for them. Maybe they could just deduct Rick Adelman's paycheck for the Rowdies.

The other thing I'm wondering is if JVG could get a tax deduction for them.

Actually, the Red Rowdies came up so late last year that apparently there wasn't any sort of budget set aside. So in terms of it being a marketing ploy, not really. All we got were t-shirts (and we were pretty happy about that). Don't get me wrong, the Rockets took every marketing opportunity they could but most of that was free things like TV coverage or whatever.

During the playoffs, you saw what happens when they've got a budget. If they do the Rowdies again this season, they'll have time to prepare a budget and I'm sure it'll be amp'ed up more this time around.

Don't forget that JVG only bought 50 tickets orignally and then TMac later bought more after he saw the effectiveness.

Exactly, it'd be a shame to give Gundy the credit he doesn't deserve.

It must seem weird to adelman to even need red rowdies, cause during the kings good years, arco had an arena full of rowdies.

The lingering hatred is there as is the lingering love. I don't see either disappearing this summer. But I am all for the Red Rowdies coming back in some form.
