What did everyone think? We went and saw it last night. I thought the first part was SUPER boring but the ending was pretty good. I seriously almost fell asleep and know I closed my eyes once. I think they tried too hard to have a story when they didn't, instead of just having fun like in the original. I think each movie got progressively worse.
i, and my date, fell asleep during the second one... was hoping this would not be the case for the third one.. urgh
I agree 100%. The first 2 hours were pretty poor and virtually unnecessary. The final 45 minutes were superb, but not enough to save the movie overall.
My gf saw the movie yesterday.. if I didn't have such a man crush on Johnny D, I probably won't see this after the second one. I asked her if there might be a 4th one, she said could be.. a slight possibility. So I take it the ending left us hanging? Btw, as progressively bad this each series gets, at least anything is better than the Matrix trilogy.
It was okay. I wasnt a huge fan of the first two movies anyway. I found myself nodding off a couple of times.
It was Fan-Tucking-Fastic. All of you normal people out there that just like to catch a good movie without trying to look like a cinema snob go see it. It rules. Wife loved it. 10 Year Old boy loved it. 6 year old girl loved it. I loved it. Um...It was truly amazing to watch. Several laugh out loud parts. Nice guitars.
I loved it like I loved the second and the first. I liked how the series kept diving further into fantasy/mythology and pirate lore and kept getting grander. My only holdups though were I wish Chow-Yun Fat had a bigger role, there probably should have been another big action scene in the first half of the movie, like the second the dialogue was a little difficult to understand at times (though I did pick up the gist of the story) and the ending was good but not quite what I was hoping for...BUT, apparently, there was a deleted scene that didn't make it that sheds whole new light on the ending Spoiler Apparently in the scene with Callypso and Davy Jones it is explained that once you are bound to the dutchmen if the two lovers stay faithful to each other for 10 years then his dept to the Dutchmen is paid and he can return to her. So, if you watched after the end credits you'll see Will returning to Elizabeth (and son) after 10 years, but it's not just for a day...they both stayed faitfhul to each other so he's no longer bound to the Dutchmen. I liked that storyline better because even though they ended up together in the end, to only be able to see each other 1 day every 10 years kind of sucks. And it makes perfect sense regarding Callypso's and Davy Jones' love angle; he was saved from death and bound to the Dutchmen and could have returned to her after 10 years, but she wasn't faitfhul (remember in the movie he asks why she didn't wait and she says "I am what I am, it's my nature." So feeling scorned , he betrays her and has her imprisoned. Also, apparently the green light at sunset signals the return of a soul from the other side...you saw it when the crew and Sparrow returned from Davy Jones' locker and you saw it in the scene after the credits when Will returns. Otherwise, I thought the movie rocked. Keith Richards cameo was fantastic. Also saw the latest Transformers trailer and I am now can say that I hooked.
I couldn't get through watching the first film, so I probably won't be seeing this one. The movie would be good if there was more violence and carried an R rating.
...I'm not one to usually argue against an R rating, but I think what makes the series so good is that it doesn't take itself too seriously..it's just fun adventure.
I'm not a cinema snob by any stretch of the imagination. I just thought it was boring. What I liked about the first two was that it was just fun. They tried to make it complicated when it wasn't necessary. I think I wanted them to dumb it down when that is rarely the case these days.
It amazes me that people can 'fall asleep' during these movies. (though by their popularity I guess this is a rather small minority) Pretty much everything, visually, in these films is very stylized and extremely eye-catching. Even if you aren't following the dialogue there is a lot to look at. In any case, I thought it was a good movie. I saw the first one back when it was released and enjoyed it, but actually didn't see the second one until a few days ago. I would say the second one is probably still the better movie.
i thought it was pretty good, i actually like it more than the second one. elizabeth came off as a slut to me, or maybe not according to junkyardwg's post.
