Might be an answerless question, but I have always wanted to take up Cello and have decided to do it recently. However, I was thinking, if there was a lower sounding Cello that perhaps wasn't as bulky to handle, maybe even having a wider range of sounds/skill... that would be awesome.

So I know Kenny G modified his own sax and all these new age synthesizing instruments have come out... is there something like that for a cello?

    thanks in advance

the closest you could get would be the electric versions of upright basses that get rid of the body. You have to buy a pricey piece to get a decent intrument.

I don't know of anything like that for the chello unless you went with a 5 string 3/4 size acoustic instrument.

I haven't heard of anything like that before.. I'm assuming maybe if you get an electric cello. I don't know why you want to get a lower sounding cello, just play the bass. Besides.. classical string instruments are best just the way they are.
