Man, right about the time I was getting really exicted about Adelman, it comes out that Clyde Drexler really influenced Les on the decision... That really bummed me out, but I'll recover even though Clyde proves as a coach and in the booth that he knows zero about coaching and Les doesn't see the 'yes' man mentality that Clyde exudes on the broadcasts. Go Rockets Yeah Adelman
Ummm - no. San Antonio certainly doesn't look exhausted on offensive, and they are the best defensive team in the league. The old Chicago Bulls teams were awesome defensively as well. Pat Riley had the heat playing monster D last year before the injuries. I will say this. Adelman is certainly more offensively minded then JVG - and our offense can't look any worse. Plus, maybe JVG has instilled a Defensive mindset in our guys that won't go away just from a coaching change. Thus, we might still have the carry-over from the Gundy era for at least a few seasons. But let's not forget one thing - When Adelman ran into defensive teams in the playoffs - he ran into trouble. The Lakers, Spurs, Bulls, and Detroit were all the bane of his existence. That should give everyone pause.
Come on. They were already over Rick. Clyde pushed it over the top because he has credibility on this matter. Clyde played under Rick and has very succesful season and he knows his style. He knows what Rick is capable of and if he is a hard nose with players or not. I'd take his endorsement over someone reccommending assistant coach who allows scrubs like Ryan Bowen and Rafer Alston to start and get heavy minutes.
I respected Clyde a hell of alot more before he started boradcasting... I just can't take him seriously anymore...
have u seen magic johnson? it does not take away their knowledge of the game. maybe clyde just doesn't know how to convey his POV in a smart way
The bane of Adelman's existence is that he ran into three excellent opponents when his teams were their best--Detroit back-to-back champions, Bulls dynasty, Lakers dynasty. It's not simply defense v. offense.
And then there is this from AOL Sports http://www.aolsportsblog.com/2007/05/24/adelmans-exciting-plans-for-houston/ Adelman's Exciting Plans for Houston Posted May 24th 2007 6:55PM by Bethlehem Shoals Filed under: Rockets, Western, Houston So Rick Adelman was officially introduced as the Rockets' new head coach yesterday, and he's got a lot of ideas. The Houston Chronicle had the recap; here are some highlights. First, on the subject of taking the team--in particular, Yao--up-tempo: "Up-tempo can be somewhat exaggerated. I call it more of a flow of the game. You get more of a chance to react to what the defense is doing. I had Vlade Divac at center in Sacramento, and he's not a speedster. But we ran, and we got into up-tempo. I had Kevin Duckworth in Portland, who was the same way." Interesting point. Those Kings teams weren't bursting with speed, but boy did they play fast and fluid. This certainly makes Les Alexander's insistence that the Rockets start running sound a lot less fanciful. Adelman's also hoping to expand Yao's game. After praising JVG for developing Yao's post game, he went on to suggest that the big guy's free throw aptitude could translate into a lot of mid-range points. Adelman also promised to explore Yao's potential as a playmaker. Oh, and the kicker? He wants Bonzi back. If you think the Rockets aren't about to become essential viewing, you're insane. See, next year is gonna be a fun year. Adelman will use a lot of players. I think Morey is right. We are good enough right now to be a 60 win team.
I don't know, I think Mac is really really excited about next year, see, he secretly knows his cousin is gonna come sign with H-Town, and he and his cousin will both take paycuts. Mac had you fooled.
Wow, somebody must REALLY hate Adelman by now. First he said Yao can play up-tempo. Then he said yao has a mid-range game. What's next? These guys just can't take it no more, haha.
yes, they have "said" all the right things. now they need to get the complimentary players that will allow them to actually do what they said.
does anyone know if Adelman is already looking at tapes? is he going to look for a house/apt first? what is the process of a coach when he gets hired and has to move?
he said right now, he's looking to shore up his assistant coaching team. then he'll look at a TON of tapes to see the style he'll put together to fit this team. then i think from that, he'll know our weaknesses and will tell morey whatis needed (if it's not already known)
I expect that with Adelman we will easily get over the hump. Adelman to Van Gundy on offense defense and philosphy is what Mike Krzyzewski is to Gene Keady on offense defense and philosophy How many NCAA Titles Coach K got? 1984 Duke 24-10 7-7 (t3) NCAA Tournament 1985 Duke 23-8 8-6 (t4) NCAA Tournament 1986 Duke 37-3 12-2 (1) ACC Champions, NCAA Final Four - Runner up 1987 Duke 24-9 9-5 (3) NCAA Tournament 1988 Duke 28-7 9-5 (3) ACC Champions, NCAA Final Four 1989 Duke 28-8 9-5 (t2) NCAA Final Four 1990 Duke 29-9 9-5 (2) NCAA Final Four - Runner up 1991 Duke 32-7 11-3 (1) NCAA Champion 1992 Duke 34-2 14-2 (1) ACC Champions, NCAA Champion 1993 Duke 24-8 10-6 (t3) NCAA Tournament 1994 Duke 28-6 12-4 (1) NCAA Final Four - Runner up 1995 Duke 9-3 0-1 out after back surgery 1996 Duke 18-13 8-8 (t4) NCAA Tournament 1997 Duke 24-9 12-4 (1) NCAA Tournament 1998 Duke 32-4 15-1 (1) NCAA Tournament 1999 Duke 37-2 16-0 (1) ACC Champions, NCAA Final Four - Runner up 2000 Duke 29-5 15-1 (1) ACC Champions, NCAA Tournament 2001 Duke 35-4 13-3 (t1) ACC Champions, NCAA Champion 2002 Duke 31-4 13-3 (2) ACC Champions, NCAA Tournament 2003 Duke 26-7 11-5 (t2) ACC Champions, NCAA Tournament 2004 Duke 31-6 13-3 NCAA Final Four 2005 Duke 27-6 11-5(3) ACC Champions, NCAA Sweet Sixteen 2006 Duke 32-4 14-2(1) ACC Champions, NCAA Sweet Sixteen NCAA Record: 68-19 (.782) 22 trips 7 Trips to the Final Four How many NCAA Titles Coach Keady got? People will say that your athletes are not as good athletically and that the coach won in spite of his talent. Defense without offense will get you an early exit from tournament play.
