vspan is going to have to develop a good mid-range game to play in the league. atleast avery johnson style. remember when he couldn't shoot at all but eventually developed that little deadly jumper? i mean he was practically automatic on those san antonio teams. vspan has a lot of nice qualities but like nick said he needs to take the appraoch that he can improve and not the one he took last season.
If Rafer is starting next season and we're relying on Vspan to "learn" how to hit the open jumper I think it's probably safe to say we are headed for another 1st round exit or worse.
But JW still was putting up Rafer-esque numbers. He was just much more fun to watch. They used Bobby Jackson to close games back then. We don't have that type of backup and please I hope VSpan doesn't turn into Jason Williams. We want our point guard to be an EFFICIENT shooter and scorer who can penetrate. JW was athletic, quick, and probably has the best handles in basketball but he was horribly inefficient. He was shooting Rafer-esque percentages and turned the ball over way to often. For every behind the back pass he made, he threw another into the stands. I absolutely loved watching the Kings but we don't need that. We need efficiency.
If you thought Alston's FG% was too low, you really don't want V-SPAN out there without some MAJOR improvements to his game. At 32% from the field and a sub-TMo 17% from the arc, his shooting made Alston look like Bird.
Admittedly this was a surprisingly bad shooting year for him and he only took 72 shots in total anyway... Hopefully we'll see his normal shooting averages next year....Playing to his normal strengths he is a 50-55% shooter from the field. He doesn't have NBA range and was never an amazing 3pt shooter but this % is including his Euro 3s, meaning he should be shooting at this clip from just inside the perimeter and closer.... As I said...his %s this season were unexpected but I believe he will be much better next year. Also, I wanted to say that since Adelman was named new Rockets coach, all the scenaria, manager quotes etc. regarding Span's future disappeared from greek press. I really believe he is def. back next year.
Span has very bad form. I don't know how can he work around it. If he gets Calvin Murphy or somebody as his shooting coach and correct his shooting form, he's gonna rock.
I'm sorry, but I think a shooting guard who calls himself a point guard whose signature move is to put his head down, drive to the basket while running over anyone in the way, throw up a wild shot, and pray for a foul is more suited for an Iso offense than a motion offense. Especially when half of his attempted passes are picked off. Call me crazy.
Nope, I just think that isolation suits him better than motion. As crazy as it sounds, if Van Gundy were forced to play him (or better for Spanoulis, another coach who concentrated on Iso's and pick-and-roll) he would fit better than under Adelman.
This guy is not good enough to even off the bench, let along as a starter. He will have double digits TO every game. However, players do change, adjust, and improve, with practice & play-time. Let's hope he can be the player many here think he is, not a TO prone who cannot make an outside shot as he is now.
Vspan has a very bright future in the nba if given the chance to play. He's way better than rafer and will be a star for houston if he decides to stay.
When will you people get through your head... He had a chance to play. He ****ing sucked during his chance to play. He sucked when he tried to play his own way. he sucked when he reigned his game in to conform with the system. He sucked. He had a chance and he sucked.
No he did not get a chance to play. JVG didn't want him from the summer and did everything he could to undermine vspan, by constantly bashing him in the media and sticking him on the end of the bench. Maybe when you take your JVG beer goggles off, you'll finally see that.
He was in the rotation when Snyder first got hurt. He sucked. Even in preseason he sucked. Later on, in garbage time, he sucked.
You don't practice your jumper in a game and you definitely don't fix bad shot mechanics during games.

It had to of heart span's confidence being such a coveted player and then coming here and getting jack shi* playing time. This guy must of had somewhat of a shot being so successful in Europe. Europeans are know for their high fg %ages. I say give the guy more pt.
