NBA player ratings by position

    By David Dupree, USA TODAY

The numbers tell the tale. Or at least part of it. Talk of who the best NBA players will be this season usually starts with league MVP Allen Iverson, Finals MVP Shaquille O'Neal or Michael Jordan. Looking at it strictly from a statistical point of view, the best players at their positions last season might come as a surprise.

Brendon over Kidd and Payton

I guess it depends on the methodology the author used???

    Robinson over Shaq?

Any system that doesn't label Shaq as the best center in the league is flawed, in my opinion. And that is a statement made with my Houston biases, and with Steve listed as a top PG.

Without weighting any of the categories, that's more of a novelty than anything else, but I guess it proves that Steve is the most versatile PG in the NBA :).

I like Steve at 1 but I think Cat is better than 11 and where the heck is TMac? The Magic fans have got to be steaming over that one.

The teams are supposed to be the player's team from last season. Shandn Andersn is also listed as with the Rockets.

I think the rating is very fair, but it favors those with an all around game, while it may be better to have a player who can dominate in only 2 or 3 areas...David may have had a better all-around game than Shaq if you look at stats, but I think nearly everyone would take Shaq over him....also Ray may have had the best all around seasons of any player last year, but a majority would signal Iverson as a better MVP player last season.

    Houstone,

That picture is disturbing. They couldn't have posed for that if they wanted to.

Gay interracial sex. Which reminds me, when does Oz start again?

Not to promote my own site - but I agree that the above ranking system is out of whack. I've recently developed a new Player Ranking Index to put a bit more science to rankings but not as much as USAToday did - they went too far and ruined it.

My PG ranking has Francis at #4 which I think is pretty accurate. If any of you want to swing by and have a look - I'd be interested to hear what you guys think of the rankings and/or the PRI system itself - I've only just implemented it and am looking for feedback.

    Cheers
