Problem is...what tradeable assets do we have? I don't see any, other than potential cap relief players. Unless, you want to part with Battier.
That is 100% my point, it would be a bad business move to let him go, even if you think he will not develop. It is a guaranteed contract, it is on the books. Maybe I am wrong, NikeStrad or Gater would be better to ask, but I understand that even if the contract were bought out he would still count against the cap. DD
Nothing on Chuck Hayes. I hate to read between the lines too much because Morey is such a direct guy, but I'd guess since he said they're exploring trades at the 4 and 1, it probably means Hayes would at best be brought back off the bench, if at all. He said very specifically that the Rockets have a number of players that other teams want. For sure he means outside of Yao and McGrady. I doubt Battier will be traded either, but it sounds like everyone outside of those is fair game. Another interesting point he made is that Adelman has coached a "Top 5 offense 4 times, and a Top 5 defense 5 times." Morey knows his stats.
That's interesting! I assume the Rockets keep T-Mac, Yao and Battier (Battier is the 1st player Adelman spoke on the phone). Sura's expiring contract with 1 mil guarantee will draw some interest. Lucas, Head, Hayes, & VSpan are small contracts wont bring you any good. So, the main trading chips will be RA & Juwan. Someone want Juwan? That's exciting news.
Wasn't there a Minny rumor of Juwan for Mike James etc at the trading deadline? That would be a GREAT deal.... DD
It's impact is minimal. He has 2 years left at 1.9 mill (next year) and a team option at 2.1 mill. Obviously, the team option wouldn't be exercised in that case. If you let him go, he agrees to a buyout for some amount less than 1.9 mill. When Dino Radja did it years back, it was for 50%. That amount hits the cap. In other words, less of a cap impact than Charlie Ward or Bob Sura this past year or Matt Maloney in prior years. If the guy wants out that badly, the cap implications (one year of about $1m in dead weight) are doubtful to hold him back. Will you stop trying to frame your unrequited love for Spanoulis as as a business decision now? sTWO - Cool stuff. As the resident Sura Only Fan, I assume nothing was said on his return?
I was there this morning too...I asked Morey if management is concerned with Tmac and Yao's health issues..they basically said they expect them to be hurt and just hope that they are healthy for the postseason..that was kind of strange...
