True that there have been some false-hope turnarounds from Lidge before, but this:

After limiting lefties to a .631 on-base-plus-slugging percentage (OPS) and only one home run in 2005, those numbers ballooned to a .866 OPS and four home runs in 2006. Because the movement on his pitches typically doesn't go away from lefties, location is crucial.

"It takes away from my slider when I [fly open]," Lidge said. "Staying closed helps me, especially with lefties, because I can spot the pitches better."

This year, the OPS for lefties against Lidge is back down to .740, with no extra-base hits since the home run by Fielder.

lends some hope that this time it's for real. Even in '06 he was reasonably dominant against righties - once he can get lefties out consistently again, much of the luster will have returned.
