I don't think the Island/Walt would have told him "he still had work to do" unless it was wanting him to kill Naomi. It's not like the Island is going to tell him "Hey there's this chick with a sat phone. Don't do anything, just letting you know." I think that Ben is right. This new group is going to totally destroy the Island, perhaps in an attempt to harvest its powers. The Island itself doesn't want to be found.
They asked Jack if he was friend or family....that leads me to believe it's not Michael, since Jack isn't black....I do believe at least Walt would show up to his Dad's funeral, but they said nobody had showed up except for Jack. Kate also said, "why would I go?" which makes me think it could be Sawyer, maybe they had a falling out on the island or after the rescue. Whoever it was, it drove Jack to want to kill himself after reading about it.
Walt could have died. Maybe it's Bernard. I could see Bernard being in black funeral home due to his marriage to Rose, who could have died prior to this. Don't know what Bernard could have done to piss people off to the point that no one would attend though.
I agree Ben is the most likely. Sawyer was the 1st to come to mind, but then he also came to mind when Kate said "he will know I am gone". I would say Ben or Locke. Michael is too much of a minor character and was always rapped up into Walt (and getting them out), not other motivations. Also, Locke had to know something more about the chick he killed. He has a hard enough time killing bad guys, nor could he kill Jack to stop the call/save the Island--he had to know she was really bad AND was going to call. I think it was more than an Island vision too--Locke must find something else that gives it away (or maybe talks with Jacob or the other main Other/guy who recruited young Ben after getting out of the pit but before getting to the radio tower?)
It might not be the person who drove him to it. It could be the person reminding him of the island that drove him to it.
i got home late. so damn confusing. why da hell did locke kill naomi? she was hot. what da hell is up with jack?
Naomi was hot, dude. Locke likes to ruin things that could get them off the island. But I guess this doesn't affect them getting off this time.
This may be a very trivial point but... Spoiler Remember when Naomi first landed on the island and Desmond and co. got Mikael to "heal" her since she was injured? After he healed her she said something (in another language) that seemed to really shock him. When Charlie noticed it he asked Mikael what she said to him and Mikael said "she said thank you." But it was obvious that's not what she actually said. Does anyone know what she said and if that is relevant at all to the future?
Close up of the Obit. Spoiler I'm now betting it's somebody we haven't met yet. Since the name appears to be Jo? ?antham.
More stuff concerning the possible date of the flash forward. Spoiler When Jack gets the paper and puts it down, you can read the headline: Residents speak . . . proposed coastal . . . Here's a link to the online article from the LA Times on April 5, 2007. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-lng5apr05,1,7141085.story?ctrack=1&cset=true
I guess it doesn't really matter if you could seal the door from the outside. All the rushing water would have pushed the door closed anyway and they would have had ample time to escape after that. Charlie did what he did because Desmond told him that if he didn't die like he saw in the flash...then Claire and baby would not be rescued. There is no question that Charlie could have easily saved himself had he wanted to. But, I take it the offshore boat is not going to be the one doing the rescuing if they are there for the island and not part of Penny's effort to find Desmond. How the hell does Penny end up on the other end of that communications line from the underwater station just at the right time when Charlie shuts off the jammer?
