UGK, specifically Bun B are my favorites with Paul Wall not far behind. I like Chamillionaire, too. In terms of ability, creativity, flow, delivery, and all of that, Chamillionaire is the best. Scarface is solid, but I just think the other guys have better beats, so I like them more. And by the way, it's "Lil Keke", not kiki. And, I love a Lil' Flip and Mike Jones hit, they just don't have as much good music overall compared to the other guys.
I consider UGK to be from Houston, since they shout out to H-town almost as often as they do to PAT.... They're easily better than anyone else on that list. If I had to pick from the list though I'd go with Fat Pat. He didn't drop many tracks but he was definitely on the come-up before he got taken out for $200 damn dollars.
i got to meet him (Bun) when they had the "Movies Houstonians Love" event at MFAH. Nice guy and real. I've been UGK fixed since the first time i heard a song. It was 1995 or 6, in my friends crappy escort (or something)...the verse that got me was. "who gives a dam when you cant afford the turkey or ham Live'n off of Ramon noodles, beef jerky and spam" HOOKED! Trill for life! them or outkast are the best rap duo of all time, imo. i go with UGK, but i wont hate if you choose outkast.
Funny story about Z-Ro from Wikipedia: Z-Ro showed up at the last Shane Mosley fight. Appearantly, Mosley's son asked Z-Ro for an autograph, in which he did. However, Shane noticed the violent song lyrics on the poster and asked the rapper, if he understood that his son was too young to get such an explicit poster. Z-Ro reportedly replied, "I don't give a f***." The two got into an argument, and in turn the rappers' entourage jumped in and Shanes' management crew jumped in. The boxing team was outnumbered and Shane Mosley was brutally punched in the eye by Trae (rapper) and then punched multiple times by Z-Ro. Fellow Houston rap artist, Aztek Escobar also got involved in the melee punching Mosley and members of his management. Witnesses say that a man with a firearm was seen outside moments before the dispute erupted. However, investigators have yet to determine who had a firearm. Evidence is still being looked over. When questioned by authorities Mosley said "I don't know why he hit me, there was no reason for any of this to take place. I don't even know them." Charges are currently being pressed against Z Ro, Trae, Aztek Escobar , police are still investigating the incident. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z-Ro
I like bun b alot but I wish he would rap about some more grown up topics. step his game up. he's actually pretty intelligent if you've ever heard him give an interview.
ghetto dreams.... diamond rings.... money, hoes, and clothes... and all those fancy things... rip FatPat
tupac. sorry i don't listen to any of these guys. texanskan you started a rap thread before a country thread? i thought i knew you.
Are you kidding? Houston has one of the greatest rap scenes of the past 20 years and probably the strongest scene today in comparison to other cities. Its something the city should be proud about.
comparing quality of the lyrics, it gets pretty bad. paul wall? chamillionaire? a lot of those lyrics are trash. i know everyone cant be nas, but at least have a little bit of substance. i loved phat pat and scarface though. they were/are solid rappers
Did anyone see the "Chamillionaire-Welcomes you to Houston" sign on I-45 like two years ago? I thought it was kinda funny and cool at the same time.
im just jealous that we dont have a lupe. i know his album flopped, but he's probably in my top three right now. he's number 1 on my list right now...food and liquor was better than hip hop is dead....that being said, nas is still the greatest of all time
during all star weekend??? yeah i remember that. it was pretty sweet. it's funny though. 90% of houston probably doesn't know who chamillionaire is
Dawg, Lupe is nice, no doubt. His voice gets annoying real quick though, and 80% his beats are straight dookie. Definitely one of the nicest if you just read his lyrics though.
