Anyone know a Mexican restaurant that is a must-visit in San Antonio? Or just things you must do while there even (aside from the standard Riverwalk, Alamo) ... Thanks...
La Fogata is one of my favorite restaurants ever. Problem is, I'm not really sure where it is. It's inside 410 on the Northwest side, just not sure which major street it is. Actually, here ya go: http://www.lafogata.com/
Whenever I'm in San Antone, I always visit Rudy's BBQ. There are 2 locations I think, not really sure where though. Best BBQ ever.
Really? You haven't had much BBQ then. Anyway, I think there's one like 4 minutes from Clutch's house, so he'll probably pass on that.
Nomar -- Rudy's has some mean briscuit.... good stuff. Only they have that in Austin so I'll probably want to eat somewhere more exclusive to SA.... RM95 - thanks for the tip .... this looks like an interesting one. Good grub?
One of my favorite bars in SA is Howl at the Moon. Very cool atmosphere, I like how it's open. I've been there about 4 times, and there's always some fine women there.
The Un Poquito de Todo is outstanding. Great food, great drinks, and a great atmosphere. The only bad thing is that they have pictures that indicates Spurs have eaten there.
Some people rave about a place called Mi Tierra. I personally don't care for SA so I'm not sure what I'm even doing in this thread... spers suck out rH
Clutch, I went to Trinity in San Antonio so I know the city pretty well. La Fogata has that Mexican Ambiance, good to decent food and great margaritas (strong though) Located Near North Star Mall, on 410 and Vance Jackson Mi Tierra - Close to downtown in Market Square area Almost the same as La Fogata but closer to downtown. A great Italian Place is Paesano's. There is one on the riverwalk and another in the quarry center about 10 minutes from downtown. Bars: Swigs: downtown fun place Zinc: Little more relaxing downtown Laboratory: Quarry Center fun place Any questions just ask away.....
El Mirador, on St.Marys' in King Williams District...kickass Margaritas!! Mr.Taco, on Blanco & Ashby, open ALLnite!!! This is why they call it FAT Antonio!
La Fogata is a very popular restaurant, and considered to be among the best in San Antonio. My personal favorites: On the Riverwalk, I personally really like the fajitas at Casa Rio. It's a mediocre mexican restaurant, but the fajitas are really quite good. I can't speak for many of the more upscale restaurants, but Antojito's on Culebra between 36th and Camino Santa Maria is great. It has the BEST salsa you'll find anywhere. Antojito's is only open for lunch though. Henry's Puffy Taco is somewhat of a San Antonio landmark, and it's off of Bandera and 36th street. In that area, there are dozens of hole in the wall mexican restaurants that are not bad -- my favorite is Papa Taco. But you're probably looking for stuff downtown, and/or "nicer" than these places. There is a German restaurant off of San Pedro, about 5 minutes south of North 410 (as you're driving south, it's on the left) that is just AWESOME. I don't know the name of it, but it's a mom and pop place that my roommate introduced me to. And off of 410 (west), south of Fredricksburg, on the right, there is "Massimo's Ristorante Italiano". It's expensive, but it consistently rates as one of the top restaurants in SA. I went there once. It was good, but too expensive for me to go again. OR, if you want to spend some money, the restaurant in the tower of the Americas is pretty good. I would suggest just going there for dessert though. They have a cheesecake there that is famous. It's AWESOME! Or, ask for the "Cheesecake de Marie" -- a friend of mine works there, and has a cheesecake named after her. It's not on the menu -- you have to ask for it, but it's excellent.
Clutch, if you miss Mi Terra, you will not have lived....well you would have lived, but have eaten somewhere else and that would SUCK!!!!
Mi Tierra La Fogata La Fonda Casa Rio Earl Abel's Tom's Ribs Rudy's Dirty Nelley's Dick's Last Resort I would suggest visiting the Menger Hotel (and bar), King William district, Buckhorn Saloon...all downtown. The Quarry area is nice...more of a shopping area than a 'landmark' per se. Swig's is nice. 1
A good place to grub at is Alamo Cafe. They have 2 locations and I belief one is on I-10. Have been there twice since it opened 5 years ago and it is really good. The inside of the restaraunt is pretty cool too. The ceilings make it look like you are really outdoors. Their fajitas and tortilla soup is your best bet.
My wife lives in S.A. but were seperated but u can still hit that ass I don't give a ****, Have a good time!!!!! # number and address available upon request. Tell that b**** the divorce papers are in the mail .
Some of you SA residents, maybe you could help me out...there used to be a steakhouse in Universal City called "The Hungry Farmer". Is it still there? Is it as good as I remember? I was there 20 years ago, and had the best steak and potato I've ever had.
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the tips.... since we stayed in the city the whole time, we went to Mi Tierra on Thursday night. I thought it was good... not the best I ever had, but very good. The baked goods (it's also a bakery) were outstanding... The next night we went to Cafe Ole on the Riverwalk and I thought that was even better -- but we had a party of 9 and they accomodated us very well, we sat on the Riverwalk and the fajitas were amazing. All in all a very fun weekend -- thanks again for the tips!
