i don't know why people think chuck hayes is gone or expendable. he's a player under any system. he's arguably the best cutter on the team, which apparently is a pretty good quality to have around adelman.
Adelman looks confident. He knows what he can he knows he has 2 big superstars but now he should play ofense more. I can't wait until the season starts
Ok so here are some of my wrapups since it just ended. On running: He said there is no reason why this team can't run more and he sees no reason why Yao can't be a part of that. On defense: He said that defense is important and you have to work hard on defense as well. On Yao specifically: Has no intention of removing him from the low post, but said he is ready to do more than just that. Praised Van Gundy for establishing Yao there and giving him confidence, but said it's time to expand his game. Thinks his shooting can be used as well and that he envisions him as a good a passer. On Tracy: Thinks the game has been forced to be too difficult for Tracy and he wants to change that. Tracy needs to be attacking more and the offense needs to allow Tracy to be more efficient. On the other guys: Said he can fit them into a scheme that will work for them. Says there needs to be movement and ways to involve them that makes the game easier for them as well. He said the talent is here on this team already that he can utilize. On Bonzi: Really praised Bonzi a lot. Said he hopes he is back with the team because he is a great matchup weapon. He praised him a lot. On VSpan: He was asked about more playing time and he said that he has to see these guys on the court before he would say whether a player would get more or less playing time. On assistant coaches: Said he has guys in mind and is getting a lot of phone calls from people who want to work with him. Has no doubt he will be able to put together a good staff. Other interesting things: Les said Tracy and Yao worry him with their health and Morey was not willing to discuss the JVG firing issue.
Also let me add this, the basketball genius pours off this guy as you hear him talk. You can see that he has a lot going on in that head of his about what he thinks he can do with this roster. He seemed supremely confident that he can make this team better and that it's not a lack of talent that held them back on offense.
Or that's what he would have us believe. Did you ever think about that? Huh? Seriously, I like what I hear so far. Especially the part about being more 'efficient' instead of 'up tempo'.
I real liked what I heard today. Gives me more confidence in his system 1) Up-tempo can work with Yao pushing th ball up the court and taking quicker shots before the defense sets up. 2) Need balance of offense/defense. Spurs play good defense but also attack the basket with Parker and Ginobili. We need the same attacking by our guards. 3) He evaluates player individually and gives them clean slates. No holding grudges like JVG or going to the infamous doghouse. 4) He will try to find strength in each player so they fit a role within the offense. Meaning we may not need an overhaul and major roster changes. 5) Bonzi will be back and motivated to play again. 6) T-Mac will not play PG but more of a free flowing style where he gets to play different spots on the floor. 7) Yao will be more of a playmaker on offense and develop range in his arsenal .
yes true..love his hustle...and he is a good cutter but he misses half the layups when he does get open...plus, there are games where he is non existent...he will be a good pf option off the bench..not STARTING....
His line of the day was something like "We need to devise an offense in which the players aren't constantly working uphill." What does that mean? They were forced to work too hard to get points. Like I've been saying, it's not about ppg, it's about the way the offense runs. It shouldn't be brutal to score points each time down the court.
Okay, I have to admit I was pretty bummed at JVG's firing, but after listening to this guy talk for that short time I am pretty hyped about Adelman. I really hope that Chuck is signed again, just because I think he could flourish under this more fluid offensive mindset. He can still chase down the rebounds and he can set screens to get people open... and possibly not have to track down circus passes from Tracy, who has to work so hard to get it to him. I agree with whoever said that he isn't a typical starter. Following his career I never expected him to be a starter, but regardless of this year, he can contribute to making a team a success off the bench. For a guy hiring a new coach, Les sure didn't seem very excited.
That scares me. He settled for rangey shots against the Jazz and he didnt even break 50% from the field. Yao is a dominant force, he needs to work on getting deeper position not shooting jumpers.
if u watch any rocket game on national TV, u will hear analysts saying the rockets work so hard to get their 2 pts other great teams don't. i mean, 2 pts for us is HARD.
I think he meant T-Mac and Yao were too heavily relied upon and the rest of the guys just stand there doing nothing. Teams will now have to pay consequences to for doubling Yao and T-Mac. You see a double coming then cut to the basket and get the easy layup. T-Mac will not play PG and so he will attack the basket without the ball.
Adelman sort of addressed this complaint by saying it's not about any one player having good numbers, it's about the team as a whole being effective and efficient. He's right. If the best way for this team to win is for Yao to spend a little less time in the post then so be it. Yao is not the dominant force that Olajuwon was, so it shouldn't be mandatory that he spend all his time in the post doing nothing but pounding in there.
