Mo Taylor played better before JVG, Cato was the same, and the Francis Super Bowl thing was when JVG was here. I guess that had nothing to do with McGrady coming in and Yao getting better. Must have been all due to JVG.
played better? mo-tay maybe, but i thought cato's best year was with jvg. But the point was that the rockets had some very questionable character issues...now? not so much. of course it had to do with tmac and yao. i never said it didnt.
JVG is an average coach!!!! Rick Adleman has a way better resume than JVG and its all in the Western Conference.
You're going to have to elaborate on all these supposed "questionable character issues". I guess Mo Taylor failing a drug test and then being suspended is what your problem is, I don't know. I guess JVG would have prevented him from failing a drug test? The Rockets were never known as a team with character problems.
An average team usually makes you look like an average coach. I hope Rick Adelman is given a better opportunity to win but don't blame Jeff for not making chicken fried steak out of chicken ****.
no. im not saying that jvg would lay his hands upon motays soul and cleanse it. im saying that those players arent typically around for very long when you have a demanding guy like jvg. For too long the inmates ran the asylum....and i dont miss those days at all. maybe not nationall known, but close fans know who the knuckleheads were/are.
Jeff Van Gundy? Did the #1 defense (stretches) in the league have anything to do with it? High probablity on MAYBE.
We would make a good eastern conference team. Our record against the West is a better indicator of our ability.
have some consistency people. you can't give credit to jvg for the regular season, then blame the players for the postseason. just like the jvg haters cant solely credit the players for the regular season and then solely blame jvg for the playoffs. the truth is the players and the coach shoulder the blame, maybe equally, maybe not. the bottom line is SOMETHING had to change. the easiest thing to change is the coach, especially when there ARE superior options, adelman being one of them. i like jvg, and he is an undeniably good coach, but some people here defend him like he was the GOAT. last time i checked, he never won anything, at any level. adelman hasn't won an nba championship either, so im not going to give him any undue respect either until he accomplishes something. in any event, outside of phil jackson or red auerbach, and maybe greg popovich, deserve the amount of respect that jvg has gotten here. i think he's a great guy and he's hilarious in his own way, but its not like we dropped jvg and brought in someone worse. we made a lateral move at worst, and we made a significant upgrade that will maximize our existing team, without requiring a major overhaul, at best. in the meantime, im sure morey will be doing his best to bring in players of talent. but there's a certain point where you've got to work with what you've got. jvg had his chance, he did ok, but not great. its time to let someone else take a stab. (and no, you don't win games with just 2 players, but we've got 2 superstars, and a roster of NBA players. i dont care how crappy you think they are, they made it to the NBA, so they can't be as bad as you make them out to be. i think 4 years of van gundy ball and minimization of talents has made alot of forget what some of these guys are really capable of).
My point is that the talent gap just got larger. True, Portland may not ultimately make it to the championship but they most certainly have far better building blocks than do the Rockets. And next year should look a lot like this year given the circumstances.
That;s what is scary - Portland may make it to the second round before we do. Problem wasn't the coach. JVg or Rick Adelman - it's not the style of play - it's the players. Look at our regular season and it wasn't that great. We had a team that beat up on the Eastern Conference, but sucked against the other 15 teams that made the playoffs in totallity. Sucked. And we're going to never go anywhere until we upgrade the talent around t-mac and yao - which is going to take at least a few years.
