They probably felt the third point guard would not be receiving many minutes and Damon is better than a 12th man. By releasing him they allow him opportunity to catch on with another franchise and become the number 2 or even number 1 guy. Good Luck.

This is odd that he hardly showed skills in the preseason. Maybe the Rockets were playing Jones to try and shop him after he showed his skills. I thought he would make the squad, at least on the IR. No team must have bit on their lead, so they had to waive him.

They must really see something in Brown

    I agree with you FLAGRANT1.

Damon's got game but deserves better than being the 3rd string on the ROX. Good luck man! :)

I agree that Damon Jones is better than a 12th man or 3rd point guard. One team that should give him a call quick is the Sixers. With Snow out, he could do well with them.

damon would make an excellent addition to the 6ers while snow is out. but make no mistake, it would be in a backup role. speedy claxton has been downright awesome in the preseason. he and AI in the backcourt is quicker than a hiccup.

Wow, I'm surprise we kept Brown over Jones.

Someone in an earlier post indicated that we may let Jones go if he felt that he could have a more significant role with another team.

Maybe that's the rationale for letting him go.

FLAGRANT1--Agreed, although he is NOT a starting-caliber PG. Damon Jones IS a quality backup PG in the NBA. Rudy has a history of "getting rid" of players in order for them to flourish elsewhere (i.e. Scottie Brooks).

I believe Tierre Brown made the first cut based on his defense during training camp. Apparently, he did an admirable job on Francis in practice. All we'd need out of a 3rd-string PG is some defense and the ability to knock down the occasional shot. Jones would have been wasted on such a small role; Brown might relish it.

Hell he could start for the 6ers also the Bulls, Pistons, Wizards, and Clippers..............Backup for the blazers, Cavs, Hawks, Heat, and the Grizzle.................why the hell is LANKY still here............. he doesn't even weigh enough to keep the bench warm:mad:

I don't think anyone should say "...we kept Brown OVER Jones."
As many have already stated, Jones was let go early to get on with another team, as his game warrants better than to be buried on the bench. Jones' being cut early on probably had nothing to do with Brown, or a preference for one over the other.

Brown will be cut soon I am sure.

I liked T. Brown more after seeing him play than Jones, although Jones had a good game against Detroit. But Brown really showed some potential against Orlando. Rudy kept the better player. I don't think he would have let Jones go , just because he thought he was better or too good to be third string, come on.

Tierre seemed to play more under control and is a better decision maker. He probably shot better in scrimmages, too.

I hate to see a guy that hustled soo much like Ike go, Maybe next year big fella.

I am very surprised about Damon Jones. Krosfyah picked this one! He said Brown over Jones. He does have a place in this league. It just goes to show that these guys are a dime a dozen and not guys like Langhi.

imo, Jones just wasn't good enough as a PG running the offense. I saw Brown only once, but he is comfortable running our plays. Jones has a great shot, but he got two pick-n-roll passes taken out of the air by his defender!!!!!!!!! You know how you sometimes pass to the roller right over a defender guarding you....snatch! 2 in a row. That is pretty eye-openning to a coach.

You can say..."hey coach, how'd you like my 8 assists"...but Rudy is only going to remember that you couldn't run our primary p-n-r.

Along with that, Torres simply beat him out for any of that SG time that he got at Dallas. Rudy apparently wants "pure" PGs to back up Stevie.

So, this brings us to 14 players, right? Which means Langhi starts on IR with Taylor.

    DP,
This is a fairly common practice in not only the NBA, but other sports as well. Why make a guy suffer with no PT if he could be utilized elsewhere?

There is SOME honor among thieves.

    dr. pepper,

You can only have 12 on your active roster not 14, so two of those will have to join Taylor...
