Espn's Marc Stein Says "Rashard Lewis would like to come to Houston but They have no Cap room and They will have a tough time re-signing Cuttion Mobley" http://espn.go.com/nba/columns/stein/612320.html ------------------ Will Work for Clutch 101 Book
Well, Mobley's agent has spoken, we know what was said earlier this month, so he will be back. He's wrong on that. What I do find very interesting is that Rashard Lewis wants to come here as his top choice. We do have the money if we can get Seattle to do a sign and trade with our exception. Lewis does have some leverage in this case if Chicago makes him a decent offer- he can say sign and trade me to Houston or I walk to Chicago. Maybe Drew, one of our future first rounders, and the exception can get it done. You guys think we could pull that off? ------------------ Member of the pro-Collier/Langhi movement. It isn't all that interesting that Rashard wants to be here....he played HS ball in the Houston area. His family is in Houston too. I would personally love to have him, but it seems a bit unlikely. He would be a great fit in my opinion. ------------------ HOOP-T ------------------
I know he went to high school here and all, I just meant it surprised me that we were the #1 team on his list, even over Seattle. I had heard nothing over the last two months except about how he would stay in Seattle. But if he wants to come here- forget about Croshere Rudy. Go for Rashard. I agree that he is a perfect fit. Like Collier, he is a multiple position player that Rudy really likes. He can play SF, PF, and even some SG. This guy will be a star. I'd pick him over Croshere any day. ------------------ Member of the pro-Collier/Langhi movement. IN RUDY WE TRUST!! [This message has been edited by The Cat (edited June 30, 2000).]
Doesn't just SAYING he wants to stay in Seattle effectively drive UP the bidding. ------------------ There are 3 kinds of people: those who can count and those who can't.
Ideally, I'd trade Los/Drew/future first rounder (make it with a somewhat lengthy time span, and conditional)/a small portion of trade exception for Rashard. Must....conserve........for Webber. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
Hmm. We still have to pay Shandon next summer and we don't have his brid rights yet either. I just don't think we'll have enough for Webber. I say go for Lewis and be done with it. Start Rashard at PF and then get a small forward like Morris or Battier in the draft and your starting line-up is set for the next 7-8 years.
outlaw-For Shandon's 3rd year (he must have 3 years for bird rights, this upcoming one will be his 2nd) we have the option on him, and it's for a small 2.4 million. See Salsa's thread on the main board for some of my cap calculations, then think about it again. also, Lewis is more of a SF than a PF.....still, we could then pick up Boozer, Murphy, Haywood, Woods, Curry, Chandler or Gadzuric, and have them start with Cato at C/PF. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
Just for the record: 1. The chances of landing Rashard Lewis are remote to say the least. But they are possible. 2. He would be an excellente fit here. His game would be elevated with this roster. 3. The Trade exemption MUST be used by October of this year. It cannot be saved for any future signing next year (re: The Webber reference.) 4. It would likely take considerably more potent an offer than Drew, Los and the exemption to get a sign and trade from the Sonics. The Sonics would be balking the whole way. They are in trouble with thier team, and you know they would do anything to keep him. Rashard would have to really push for a contract. ------------------
I will admit to a lack of understanding some of the finer points of free agency. Let's assume Langhi can give quality bench minutes at 3 and 4 and since Rashard plays the 3, can Walt, Bryce or 'Los and a future 1st get the deal done? That way Rashard starts and Langhi is 2nd unit. We could have saved ourselves ALOT of grief by pickin' Lewis over Mirsad Turksan at #18! OK - hindsight is 20-20. ------------------ GATER
I know I'm going to get killed for this, but how about a package that includes Cato and change, and we get Lewis and Baker. Sure we would end any slim hope of getting Webber next year, but Baker could probably prosper in a change of scenery. Our lineup: C-Dream/Collier PF-Baker/Thomas SF-Lewis/Langhi SG-Anderson/Mobley PG-Francis/Norris I like it. ------------------ Just because you're white and play basketball doesn't mean you're a Matt Bullard clone, despite idiotic accusations to the contrary. visit www.swirve.com
Oddly enough, I also like it. It would end all Webber hopes, but those are just hopes as you say and nothing is definite anyway. Heres what would be even better, though. GIve Seattle Walt Williams, KT, Drew, and some of the exception for LEwis and take Baker off their hands. Then go ahead and trade Cato, maybe Carlos Rogers also and some more of the exception to Chicago for Fizer. Lineup next year: Hakeem/Collier/TMASS-PIG Baker/Fizer/TMASS-PIG Lewis/Langhi/Shandon/Fizer Shandon/Cuttino Francis/Moochie/Cuttino That would be sweet, but the chances of either of those falling into place are slim to none. Question: What does Baker's contract look like? It seems to me if we could magically pull off that scenario, we would stil have a fair amount of room under the cap as we would be getting rid of both Cato's and Walt's contract (depending on BAkers of course). Ahhh. Dreamcasting. Regardless, I still am not too opposed to the Cato and change for LEwis and Baker thing. ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. I think Baker is a good Rebounder and scorer but he cant shot free throws in crunch time . Lewis would be nice but I was thinking of a three way trade Houston Gets Lewis ,Fizer Seattle Gets Walt , Drew , Thomas , Chicago Gets Baker , Maxwell ------------------ Will Work for Clutch 101 Book
Why would Chicago want Baker, who you say cant shoot free throws at crunch time and is obviously worse than Elton Brand or the pain in the arse that is Maxwell. Granted, I too dont really want Baker unless it is necessary to get Lewis or unless KT is also in the package. ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. Vin Baker has a 7 year deal for $86.7 million that expires in '06. Be afraid, be very afraid of that contract. Mango ------------------ 1. Put new topics in the proper forum 2. Use clear wording for new threads 3. No duplicate threads The Serious Police are watching All will be assimilated.
