lol, nevermind that yao ming generally goes back to china in the offseason and hakeem doesn't live in houston year-round. yeah it's van gundy's fault they never got together. i hope adelman gets it done but i'm wondering what else we can pin on jvg when he's long gone.

k, so ignoring the fact that what you posted wasn't funny...are you implying that yao is soft? or just vc/tracy/dirk/stay puffed marshmellow man are soft...

cus as pissed as I am about the playoffs, if you're calling tracy soft -- you definitely weren't at the games. I'm not going to lie and say he couldn't have driven more than he did, but he definitely took some hits.

    Um. You can't be serious.

JVG said Olajuwon haunted him because that was THE year for the Knicks. Jordan was out of the picture and the title was finally up for grabs and all of us thought that it was ours.

And then here comes this Rockets center who absolutely dominated our frontline and outplays our franchise center and blocks the biggest shot in franchise history since the 70s (a red hot Starks last second go-ahead three pointer in Game 6).

THAT'S the reason Olajuwon haunted JVG, same reason that the man haunted D-rob and Shaq and Patrick.

More on topic, I'm very happy that Dream is working with Yao. Yao will never have the same unbelievable quickness, reaction time, and footspeed but if he can learn the footwork and some of the tricks to ballhandling in the post he'll be great. Most importantly, and Dream mentioned this, Yao needs to be dominant. The paint is his house. A man doesn't let intruders into his house and he destroys any who dare.

Look forward to see what happens.

    ok....

    not exactly Shakespearean work...

anyhoo, so how does hakeem teach yao quickness? isn't quickness something you have or you don't have?

kinda like height. "you can't teach height." har har har.

I wonder how this would work. Offensively, Hakeem is much quicker, a lot more atheletic and have a natural flow in his offensive moves; Yao is stronger, taller and much slower and is pretty mechanical (I blame that partly on JVG) when it comes to his offensive moves.

Yao's offensive ability is a lot closer to Hakeem than his defense. On defense, Hakeem is lightyears ahead of Yao in all aspects, smaller guys run circles around Yao period. Maybe Hakeem could teach Yao a thing or two about positioning for blocks and rebounds, that'd be sweet.

Style-wise, I'd say Yao is a lot closer to Ewing than Hakeem.

Yes, because JVG won't allow any more than that.
In other news, JVG will not allow it to rain in parts of the Sahara thereby starving babies.

Winning is not about quickness. It's about attitude and mentality. Yao has his own physical tools. Yao can learn some footworks and some moves from dream but the most important thing for Yao is to learn Dream's winning attitude and mentality.

if the cookies were crunchy, then they wouldnt be watching from yao's house right? hopefully the king keebler Adeleman will help make this team less cookie cutter.

Oh yeah I did watch the playoffs you want me to remind you of Tmac getting shut down by just one player and not double teamed? put Harpring or Fisher on Kobe or Michael Jordan one on one.0

you want me to remind of the shooting percentage too?

please. being pissed and living in DENIAL are too different things. we need an assortment of cookies to make the plate good for all. please Keebler, bring the crunchy Ron Artest cookies mmmm!

It was never meant to be so. Yao had modeled his game in China after his Idol Hakeem Olajuwan. Where do you think he got that Dream Shake? The Rockets/JVG beat the Dream Shake moves out of him. JVG made Yao into a Patrick Ewing Clone. Dream will fix all that and Yao will go back to the moves he learned as a child watching tapes of Olajuwan.

I'd be satisfied if he can rebound and block like an NBA player his size should.

I hate to pour cold water here. But Yao had TWO YEARS with Deke, I don't see his defence improved even a single bit. Now you are telling me I should expect a miracle after half day with Hakeem???

This is just pure PR from Rockets.

I think it was a forgone conclusion that Jeff was going to leave even before Hakeem sat down to talk with Yao. It just never became official until after much of the decisions have been made in terms of personnel change.

Dream can't make Yao quicker but he can make is moves quicker with better footwork. Proper footwork allows you to get where you want to go more efficiently.

If you ever watch pro tennis players, they only take 2 to 3 steps to get to the ball where as normal humans do 40 yard dashes.

Dream seldomly took more than 2 dribbles to get to the hoop. If Yao can learn this, he will be improved and less predictable.

    Those poor babies!!!
Damn, Van Gundy... damn him all to hell!!!!!!!!!!! (in my best Charlton Heston imitation)

It'll be Van Gundy's fault if Yao only has time for one or two sessions with Dream, instead of a couple of weeks. Please, PLEASE, can we get Jeff to get the Chinese National Team to give Yao some time this summer to work with Dream? Pretty please? With noodles?

Yeah.. I agree. Footwork is everything. I'm excited to see how much he improves.
